What first ? - #26 or #20

Im looking for some advice. Is is better to apply Meguiars #26 wax then a sealer like #20 in that order?



Dose anyone recommend a doing multiple coats of #26 then #20, and if so how many coats?

Do a couple coats of #20 a few days apart, then do a few coats of #26 likewise. The #20 is a polymer sealant so it can't be applied over wax/oil/silicones, only over (almost) perfectly clean paint.
 
4DSC is right. #20 has some cleaners in it, so if you use it on top of #26, it'll take it off. I currently have this combo on my car and it works well.
 
i have #26 on my car right now, but im worried about the winter in michigan. Do you think i should apply #20 or the blackfire protection stuff b4 winter when its time to re wax? Im just worried about all the salt getting at the body of the car even though ill take the time to wash it to get it off!!!:D
 
oh i also forgot to add in my post, how long do these sealant(synthetic waxes) like #20 and blackfire last if just one coat was applied?
 
I think I remember some issues with Blackfire durability, so I'd stick with #20, which people says lasts quite long (and is locally available too).



I like to apply at least 2 coats of any product if I can. That way you at least ensure thorough coverage. 2wheelsx2 has commented on how #20 does seem to get better with more coats if you allow some time in between them. :)
 
Technically, I'd do #20 first, since it has mild cleaners, then #26.



BTW, #20 contains waxes, oils, and silicones, as stated by Meguiar's so I don't think there is much true "bonding" going on with the product. Do the polymers increase durability? In this case, yes, but with the other waxes and silicones, I don't believe they could form a true bond to the paint surface, like Zaino or Klasse. I don't think it would be an issue to apply #20 over another wax though, as long as you don't mind that wax being removed in the process.

As Mike stated, there's no problem in putting #20 over the #26, because of the cleaners. It removes whatever is under it. I did notice that the #20 didn't last as long on top #7 as on bare paint, so maybe the cleaners aren't that effective on really oily bases.



As for how many coats, I like to put at least 2 coats on, partly because I believe there is some layering going on, but mainly because I feel more secure that I get better coverage, in case I missed any spots.



And as 4DSC stated, I have noticed that the shine gets better with multiple coats if there is some time between coats. And this is not an illusion, as other people have commented that my #20 results are better than theirs.
 
Depends on what you mean by "cure". I like to leave the #20 on for 20 minutes to 30 minutes before I buff. Then I do a new coat in a week. But I live in the temperate climate of the Pacific Northwest.



I find that I get the best shine by leaving 6 or 7 days between applications.
 
Anybody know, if you were to compare the durability of #20 and Nufinish, which one would come out on top?



Im gonna do the final "big" detail on my car for the impending winter (sure feels like it, 39 degrees out there right now!) soon and am trying to figure out which one to go with. My parents cars have always turned out ok with 2 coats of NuFinish, but Im looking for the best in protection my paint can get - shine doesnt really matter.



So from what I read, you can layer #20, but with diminishing results? Or what?
 
How about Nufinish then 26 as a topper? I've still got some nufinish that I hate to throw away. I figured that might be a good combo for my daily driver Jeep that stays outside 365 days a year.
 
Yeah, go right ahead and use that bottle up. Although #20 is better than nufinish, i think youll be good for the winter if you apply that #26 over it.
