What drives us to detail

I agree with Jngrbrdman. I own 01' and 02' vehicles respectively. I really enjoy keeping them "new" and really "better than new."

I love the feeling of pride I receive when I view them in all their shining glory. It also helps when I go to the supermarket, hardware store etc and employees constantly ask me "what wax I use?", or say "man, that is a phat truck."

I detail for the way the paint feels after a fresh coat of KSG, or the chrome wheels on my truck shine after a polishing. I guess it is a mixture of relaxation, friend/strangers googling over the vehicles, and my own pride at knowing that I, with the proper products, have turned my vehicles into shining stars.

I can't say enough about this forum, or the help I have received from its members. My wife agrees(she thinks I'm nuts) that Autopia has changed my life!

Long live Autopia, and the Autopian way of life!

I used to want people to come over and talk to me but they kind of slow me down and I don't like to have the machine and on and face the other way when I talk to them. I think they feel a little disrespected so I turn off the machine and let them finish before I get back to work (most of the time).

Maybe one person here and there is cool. What I like is the group of young kids who come by pointing fingers and telling their buddies "thats my car thats my car" and "man, thats the more shiny car I have ever seen", they're the best bunch.

Detailing for others....a few extra bucks for vacation, college fund, retirement fund, etc.

There's also a personal satisfaction when you bring someones'car back to them and they can't believe that it's their vehicle!

Detailing your own vehicles...therapy!

From a personal note I love my cars to be as clean as clean can be. From my business perspective it wouldnt look good for me driving around in mucky Bentleys. Over the years, i honestly have spent longer and longer caring for them. I just wonder where it will all end.

What drives me to obsess over a clean car is that I know after all the hard work is done I can enjoy the fruits of my labor. And man does it pay off. Everytime I drive my GN on the streets people drive up next to me and just stare and be amazed. I get a lot of thumbs up on the street too and it feels so good:bounce :D . I'm also a perfectionist that I always look for every scratch and actually get mad when I see one no matter how small it is. And then I try my best to eliminate it. People see that the car looks awesome but I know that it can always look better than it is. All in all, I will continue with this hobby till the day I die.

Here's a question for y'all.. how many of you were made fun when you were younger? more specifically your first car?

I realized the other day that part of the reason I'm obessed about making my car look as clean as it can, was actually because I was embarrased about my first car. People made fun of it, having to drive it to pick up chicks, etc. I probably keep my car clean now so I won't be embarrased :o You'd be surprised how many people do what they do because of their childhood... just a thought.

FiveAinOne, i'm only 7 or 8 months into my first car. i spend lots of time making it look perfect because it's the first substantial thing i have ever owned. besides, each hour more i put into my car equals one more girl staring at my car:cool:
