What does an LSP protect against?

Welcome back, Accumulator. :wavey

Thanks, I had a blast :D

I fondly recall the days of my layers of near 50  :o layers of SG on the A4. It probably did guard against micromarring due to acrylic nature of the product.

Good heavens! 50?!?

With far fewer than that I was able to avoid damaging the MPV when I had a major "oops!" involving, uhm...contact that shoulda really marred the paint in a horrific way. Absolutely did not cause paint damage (fortunately it wasn't a concentrated application of force like a "sharp object scratch"). Genuine BTDT experience that astounded me, one of those things that results in "nobody can tell me different" ;)

Since this Opti-Coat appears to be the first true, non snake oil coating of its kind, I expect it to provide similar, if not better protection. I think the home run with this product hopefully will be just adding another layer if it gets marred. Looks like we'll have to look for the field reports to starting coming in more regarding that...

Perfect for so many applications, including I suspect your emblems. Probably *not* the right stuff for me to use as an LSP for various reasons though. Eh, it's sitting here waiting for me to find the right application and I bet I'll come up with something  I'm so convinced that it is indeed a non-snakeoil product that I just had to buy some!

My understanding from Chris @ Integrity Detail (he applied my OptiCoat) is that any marring would have to be buffed out .... it just won't occur as easily to start with. I don't believe you can apply one layer over another. You would have to compound to remove the first layer and then reapply OptiCoat.

I think its easy enough to say that an LSP doesn't protect against anything, however I have seen my fair share of cars that have been:

-washed weekly but not waxed

-washed and waxed regularly by a drive through car wash

-cars that have been garaged but not waxed

-cars that have been waxed on a very regular basis

The cars that have been waxed by the owner regularly always have the best paint. Sure the rubber and trim take a back seat to the garaged car, but the fact remains, regular waxing keeps the paint in great condition.
