What do you use to do the fine detailing?

Oddly enough, this isn't a "praise the mullet" post. Brace yourselves.... This is an actual detailing question!! You may begin to feel light headed right about now. Don't worry... that's normal. Just sit down and have a read. :D

What do you use to clean out the areas that normal washing doesn't take care of? Stuff that collects around the window seals and around your side mirrors. Stuff that gets in between the body panels. That kind of stuff. I've just been using a tooth brush and a tooth pick. I spray some QD in there and start picking away. Am I doing it right or is there a better way? My bitchin camaro hasn't been fine detailed for awhile and I figured that I would spend some quality time with her. Uh... quality time is hard to find since I'm so popular with the ladies, of course. I don't have that much time to do it obviously. uhm... but I do like to find a minute here and there. You know, when I'm not livin la vida loco and all that. Any advice?

I don't have any suggestions for you but, I would like to request that you slow down the animation on your picture. The mullet comes and goes too fast so my wife can't admire it the way it deserves.
 
Got it. More time to admire the mullet, eh? Your wife sounds like a lady of style and taste. It will be the first thing on my 'to do' list when I finish brushing the mullet. :D

There are detail brushes that I use that look like small paint brushes with 1.5 inch bristles and red handles. As far as finding them, they're pretty common on most "supply guy" trucks....maybe a paint supply store but, not for sure about that. If you have trouble finding them let me know and I could send you out a couple :D They should free ya up a little more for the ladies;)
 
Paint brushes of various sizes around 1/2" to 2" work well for me. Some tape around the metal part that secures the bristles keeps me from causing more damage than good. I just buy a cheap assortment at Wal*Mart every so often. Using QD seems to be the best way to get the small areas cleaned up. I also use the paintbrush/QD combo for some of the hard to clean places in the engine compartment. I was always a little leery of using an all purpose cleaner because of the residue that you sometimes can't get out. A little QD probably won't do much damage. Some of the cleaners might.
 
Dirty South.... I think I've seen those. They are yellow and have like a pointy toothpick on one end and then some fuzzy bristles on the other. Don't they come in a little tube or something like that? I've seen those at paint supply stores before. Since my toothpicks seem to be working for now I think I'll stick to them. Toothpicks and QD seem to be my weapons of choice right now. They are kicking butt on all the crud on my car. I appreciate the advice though! Thanks guys! :D

try the foam paint brushes from the dollar store..then you have more $$ for the grooming of the mullet and and the ladies;)
 
Foam brushes are too bulky. I need a fine point to do the work around the window seals and places. I'm about to go where no man has gone before and do my engine. Wish me luck. Gotta go get my hair net....
 
Foam brushes come with chissel(sp?) tips ..and squish into tight places...just saturate it with QD and you have enough around there:rolleyes: and get into all sorts of tight places..just not around the women or mullet;)
 
My mullet is cleaner than that. No need to get out the chisel brushes. My women on the other hand.... well, lets just say that some of them could use a good chiseling now and then.
