What do you think of Satin Black paint?

I have a good buddy that drives a truck for a living and the truck he drives is a show truck. It has that extended wheel base and a big lowered bumper on the front and the truck is painted flat black and looks like a 1930's hot rod. It's SUPER cool and he won best in show in Joplin a year or so ago, which is the most prestigious truck show in the country, also won 10 g's for it.

I'm up in the air on the flat black too, but on the right car (or truck) it can look pretty cool. I'll try to find a pic of his on the net, it's really cool.

Here's a link.

It looks shinier in the photos, but it's pretty "flat".

Well call me old fashioned or a traditionalist but the flat or satin finish dosen't do a thing for me. The trend of black wheels also ranks very low on my scale. I don't think this trend will survive the test of time as flame paint jobs , torque thrust style or chrome spoked wheels have. Some trends keep coming back for years and thankfully some don't . Old muscle style of cars were in when new and still going strong. Remember when guys raked the front or back end ? Didn't look good then and never made much of a comeback. How about bowed out wheels that stuck out way past the wheel wells ? I've seen a lot of trends come and go in my 60 yrs and certain ones have a way of surviving over the yrs . We will just have to wait and see on these latest trends.

I'll join the camp of "no interest" in the new flat or matte blacks or greys. I also don't like black wheels. I do understand the youthful desire for that sinister look but to me it lacks style and pizzazz. I do accept it's popularity however I personally need color and shine. I also don't really like chrome wheels.

When I was asking myself, "Why?", you just answered it! The Sinister Look! Excellent observation.

However I personally need color and shine. (If you don't mind, I'll use your exact words!)

Matte black on the body and the wheels. if it was mine Id drop the pin strip too and tint the tail lights and headlights. If it wasnt a track vehicle the windows would be blacked out as well!

I absolutely love the satin finish on just about anything as long as it looks professional. The first two pics are from the big car show I go to in California. The first year I was there, their were two Ferrari owners outside the hotel talking about matte finishes. One owner bet the other 1 DOLLAR that he wouldnt flat black his 360 Challenge. Well the next day it was flat black! He rattle canned it himself in the parking lot of home depot that evening :out:

It did not look good, it had runs and everything in it. But that is what happens when you have to much money!

The Novitech Ferrari about is probably one of the best matte finished Ive seen, plus it has an amazing motor/drive train set up!!:clap:

They are twin supercharged and have roughly 707 hp
