What do you tell them when they ask....

I'm a noob but getting more educated on washing and detailing, but I'm annoyed already at everyone asking 'why do you do that I just...' and 'just bring it to the car wash', etc., you know what I mean. When I try to go into detail and discuss the reasons I quickly lose them and they stare at me like I'm some type of alien.

Anyone have any good one liners that sum up the processes without going into lengthy dialogue?

You never told us what they are asking. Whatever it is, be simple and too the point. You have to remember that most people that want a good job don't have the slightest clue about professional detailing.

take a led light, go to their car, shine and lit up some swirls amd tell them you don't want THAT :D

Just say you like to take care of your stuff properly and move on... :)

You just have to educate the client in terms they understand. Understand what they want as well to establish you are what they are looking for. Showing them the swirl marks they are happily paying $12 for every weekend at the car wash is a good start. Show them before and after pics of your work and how paint damage, neglected vinyl and plastics, neglected interiors they don't see is damaging and decreasing the value of their car. Work on and document heavily a complete beater.

I use my 2003 Focus dark blue metallic. It gets me to and from work and it's my sample car. On the hood I have a tape out section with 5 blocks. ( Mind you this is the only part of my car I pay attention to. It gets washed twice a year and the blocks get worked on once a year and freshened up as needed with a no rinse using Gary Deans)
1st block just wash
2nd wash and clay
3rd wash, clay and AIO
4th wash, clay 2 steps of correction and seal
5th wash, clay, full correction seal and wax.

They can see and feel the difference. They can compare their own car to one of the blocks. Then they start to see block 5 really looks good.

^ I really like that idea. I wish my beater DD was a darker color though so the different blocks were more noticeable but I still might give that a shot.
