What do you suggest for large exterior plastic panels?

I'm going to be doing a detail on a '04ish Honda CR-V. For people familiar with this car you know they have their share of unpainted plastic panels.

I'm curious to know what you guys would use on them? Something that isn't oily and wont run at first sight of water.

May seem like an obvious answer to most but I've never really done large plastic panels before.

If it is a rough or textured plastic I use UT&TGP. Does not streak. Two coats will last months. For smooth coated plastic, I like Sonus Total Eclipse, but it does not last very long.

Werkstat Satin Prot is my favorite. I'm currently experimenting with a way to apply Acrylic Jett, too... I have used diluted Klasse twins with good results, but it takes some effort.

What do you mean by UT&TGP? Can you link me to a place where I can buy it?

Based on my limited use thus far, I've found Poorboy's Trim Restorer to be absolutely fabulous. I used it yesterday on a Mini, and on my own Range Rover which has a LOT of unpainted plastic trim. The CRV and Element would make great test subjects.

There's a lot of decent trim stuff out there so take your pick! :)

couldnt you use a tire product? black magic matte tire finish?

I think the tire products are designed to migrate into the rubber. That cannot happen with the plastic and thus the results would be different. Two completely different surfaces.

$38 bucks is pretty spendy...at least for something I've never tried before.

I've found Meg's M39 & M40 for about $20 for the pair, just not sure how well it'll work. Anyone used them before?

M40 is no good for exterior.

Best $38 I ever spent for exterior plastics.

I have on the rocker panel of my Accord right now Meg ASD and FK 350, they have not seen rain yet both look great, a slight edge to FK 350. I have not heard anything bad about Hi Temp Bumper renew or Poor Boy Trim restorer

The HiTemp has a black dye mixed in and adds a little something extra. It's not so much as to stain stuff, but definitely blackens trim that has dried as well as tires that look more grey than black. It's only $23 gallon.

I don't know if this is thread jacking..the drivers side door of my car has alot of scracthes on the plastic door panels...and regualr wiping won't take them off. How do i remove those scratches?

Yeah, it's kind of thread jacking but my question has already been answered so I don't care.

You should post a new thread with a title specific to your question though, you would get more answers that way.
