what do you guys used to clean your POLISHING PADS with?

been reading for awhile now and didn't see instruction how to clean the POLISHING PADS with? Does any1 have any advise? thankx.
 
For most polishes, Meg's red degreaser. For really stubborn LSPs, Dawn Power Disolver. I also throw any used pads into my bucket of wash water as soon as they are done. If you let them dry, things get much worse.
 
I put them in the wash machine with whatever detergent is on hand, I know it's not wise to do so but I haven't had any negative effects on my pads, some of which are over 3 years old now. Throw them in the dryer on low heat for about 20-30 minutes, take them out and let them air dry if they're still damp.
 
I have/use a Grit Guard Pad Washer. It's a bit pricey (I got lucky and won mine in a contest/give-away) but it's very effective even for on-the-fly cleaning.
 
There're two kinds of cleaning:



1)regular, "end of the day" cleaning. I wash 'em by hand under hot water with Dawn or an APC or Dawn Power Dissolver



tip: if there's a *LOT* of product to clean out of the pad, you might consider tweaking your approach as *IMO*, lots of product in the pad isn't good. Any product...abrasive, wax, anything.



2) "middle of the job" cleaning, where you've done, say....half a panel with M105 and need to clean the pad out before continuing. For this I like the air compressor better than anything else; if you clean the pads conventionally you have to deal with drying them out.

I'll 1st powerwash the ground around me and then do each pad one by one (on the ground). Once they're wet they kinda stick to the ground. Then, a quick spin with rotary and they're dry in now time.

lol I would actually hate to see us detailing the same car behind closed doors! :grinno: I do the same thing. If your really good you cant start slowing bring the water pattern wider as you come up on the pressure washer wand. LOL those things are gonna stay put!
 
I might have to come up with some velcro attachment that fits into the lid of a 5 gal pail. I might could use that to wash pads. You guys and your washing on the ground!
