What do you do with flat black paint?

I'm going to work on the warden's Pathfinder this weekend. It has metal bumpers and a spare tire rack that are painted a flat black.



What do you guys do with this? Somehow polishing/waxing doesn't seem right because it's flat black, but then again, what do I know.



Any and all recommendations appreciated.
 
I would contact the wax/sealant manufacturer, and/or read the label very carefully. I have seen labels which warn against using on flat paint. I havent seen a wax that specifically lists being flat paint compatible, but that doesnt mean they dont exist.



Which wax have you used on flat paint Guess My Name?
 
I have used Z and Klasse on flat painted parts like he mentioned...trailer hitches exterior tire mounts...but they were not rough just flat paint with no real shine kinda satinish.



It all depends on the surface texture....if it is rough than it is a PIA to remove the stuff. When rough I use 303 or the like and buff.

The parts in question aren't rough like undercoating, but they are NOT smooth like the body paint. (I'm struggling for the right word to describe it.) Anyway, I'll try a little polymer coating on an inconspicous spot and see what happens. :confused:

Will post results.
 
My recommendation is that if you have to do the wardens car, I'd tunnel out and run away. My warden always wants me to wash her car but she never, ever makes any attempt to maintain the job so I just give her 5 bucks worth of quarters and directions to the Gorilla Car Wash (that is if she'll loan me the 5 bucks).
