What do you do for shade?

Do any of you use pop up tents? Do you work in direct sunlight? Do you try to find natural shade?

Just wondering, as some products don't fare well in direct sunlight and I was wondering what my fellow detailers do to combat the sun.

thnx

I use many of the Meguiar's Professional products and have really never had a problem working in direct sunlight. Of course, I would not polish and wax a black car on a summers day when the temps are 100 degrees either. Usually, during the summer months I like to get started as early in the day as possible in order to avoid the hot afternoon sun.

Thats a rap.......... :2thumbs:

You have to have options in the summertime, not only to make the work easier, but to save yourself.......

This year I tried to find natural shade or used clients garages if they were big enough. Next year I'll have a couple of canopies that together will give me 9mx6m of shade.

That's pretty much what I just ordered. Not sure of the size of those, but I ordered 2 10x10 canopies so that I can do exactly that. I also ordered sidewalls though for the winter. I figure so long as the car isn't too long, I can just close it in when it's really cold to have a portable room. Maybe even carry a small heater with me to stay warm.

Where'd you get those tents? how much, how long to setup, how well built/durable are they?

thanks

They are two 8x12 canopies. I got them from a Korean guy that makes them herein So. Cal. I have had them for 12+ years and they are extremely durable. They cost $375 each.

I wear a hat and sunscreen. ;)

It is so windy here all the time, if I had a canopy, I'd need some heavy stands for the legs so it wouldn't blow over. Most of my customers have a shady place to work though. If they don't, I go with Poorboy's and Clearkote products.

As long as you don't detail anything bigger than a couple of lawn chairs your GOOD.

What happens when the wind kicks up and one of those metal legs slams into the car, or worse yet, it goes Oz on you?

I was planning on putting that protective foam around the legs if I used one...the kind in carnivals and stuff like a tube with a slit on 1 side 1-1.5" thick. Kinda like a hollowed out whacky noodle.
