What do dealerships use?

Most likely an Ardex product. I'm sure all Hendrick stores use the same products.

Hmm...Ardex, huh?

Yeah, I'd kinda figured that Hendrick dealerships might all use the same stuff and they're big enough that I always thought somebody here might know something, so thanks for posting that.

Besides their warrantied sealants, which seem to change all the time. Around here they use Malco or Production products.

Use to work at their BMW store and when I use to go through the detail shop there was ardex supplies all over.

Ah, I see. Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if they use the same stuff on the BMWs and Lexuses at least and I figure they just did the Yukon with whatever was already sitting around. Though they clearly wanted that GMC thing off their nice used-import lot and didn't exactly appreciate it (hey, worked fine for me, good price).

After cars get their final assembly at the manufacturing plant, they go down a QC line where techs inspect the paint for any and all defects. There they get spot sanded/buffed and shipped. They usually only do a quick grind down with aggressive pads/compounds which fills the heavy haze being revealed later at the dealer. This process is totally different from what occurs at the dealership. I've seen dealers do anything from just a plain wash to a full blown detail on a new car as they are aware that even new cars (especially the ones that have been on the lot a long time) need some love.

The QC line is where most German cars end up with 2-4 localized areas of rotary holograms. If the car is otherwise swirl free, odds are the dealer didn't do anything beyond a wash and hand wax. Whole car covered in holograms is almost always the fault of the dealer.

Most dealers use whatever is cheap in bulk to detail cars.

I find most 'high end' dealers in this area (high end being anything from entry level luxury to real high end) use some sort of glaze/wax when they prep cars for customers. When I do new car preps on BMWs, Audis, Lexus', Ferarri's, Mercs, etc they almost always beads like crazy and look a heck of a lot worse after I strip the stuff off. I know at the BMW dealerships I do some work for they have a whole slew of Farecla stuff called "Dark Car Glaze" :)

Picus have you ever used Farcela products? Some of there compounds are nice actually. Dust like crazy but pretty nice. Never seen the glaze though.

Oh ya, I wasn't baggin' on Farecla stuff, I've used G3 and G10 quite a bit in the past. I don't know if I'd use it now, but it did what I needed it to do when I used it. I was just commenting that some of the dealers I've worked for use a lot of the glazes.
