What Dilution for Simple Green???

I've been testing out several products for wheel and tire cleaning lately. I picked up some simple green the other day, and am wondering what is a SAFE but Effective dilution to use my clear coated factory wheels.

Right now i have a 1:1 dilution with water. Is this too strong?

I use Simple Green only on wheels that are pretty clean with just a light layer of brake dust.

For this purpose I dilute it 10:1 and it works well on factory cc wheels. I know its mild, which is desirable, but seems to work a treat.

For very dirty wheels I have a couple of other products from Autoglym and TW.

For extremely dirty wheels I use EO A2Z.

Simple Green is quite caustic and alkaline. It will corrode aluminum, perhaps over time, but it will corrode.

1:1 is very strong.

There are SO many other option out there, I'd put the simple green away.

Consider a citrus-based wheel cleaner. I have great success with Auto Magic's "XP Citrus Wheel Cleaner".

I am uninformed of the availability in CA...

Yes, never use anything alkaline on bare aluminium, regardless of strength.

Even on factory c/c wheels you have to be careful with product dwell time.

Regular use of any strong chemical, be it alkaline or acidic (citrus-base), should be used with caution and not allowed to dwell too long on the wheel surface.

If you want to stick to Simple Green, then you have to dilute it far more, as I do, and use only on factory c/c wheels. :D

FWIW: At the Navair base (Jax FL) they issued a copy of an Navy memo saying to stop using Simple Green as it has proved to have adverse effects on alum suspensin parts etc...

Thanks for the warnings abaut simple green. I used it last night at my 1:1 dilution and it cleaned very well. I sprayed it on, let sit for about 1 minute, then scrubbed with a sponge and brush.

I'll save the SG for tougher jobs in the future.

Are citrus based cleaners safe for the clear coated wheels?

How so? SG has a ph level of 9.3-9.5. This is way lower than Eagle One's A2Z. Not trying to be rude or funny, just asking.
