What did you do detailing wise today?

It was a beautiful detailing day today!

Washed the wife's car (the other black car) with Meguiar's Shampoo Plus.
Cleaned tires with Zep Fast 505. Worked well. Removed all previous dressing in two steps.
Applied a thin coat of MaxWax over fading BFMS.
Cleaned windows in and out with Sprayway.
Sealed exterior glass (except windshield) with BFWD.
Dressed tires with Mother's Back to Black Tire Shine.
Vacuumed with MetroVac.

Did a quick wipedown on the inline 5 in the Jetta. Mequiars Ultimate Protectant afterwards.

Took a ride to PA yesterday so this morning I removed bug guts from the front end, windshield and mirrors. Yuck!

Trick is to get them before they bake into the paint!

DG rinseless wash w/Aquawax for our Fusion. First time using it. I like the smell. I will tell in time with a few more washes if I like it more than ONR.

I did a quick wash (wheel areas just wiped down) on the wife's DD..the one that has the Blackfire Spray Wax.

Products used:
  • Pre-Wash on bugs and cowl with PB's Bug Squash 1:3
  • Washed with Auto Finesse Lather and Poorboy's wash mitt (2 bucket method).

It started to sprinkle just as I had finished drying so into the garage to finish it up.

  • Jambs wiped down with Adam's Detail Spray
  • Wheels wiped down with CG Speed Wipe
  • Glass cleaned with Mothers Glass Cleaner and Carpro Glass towel

Blackfire Spray Wax Update: It is has been about 4 weeks and slickness has dropped off significantly but it was still quite easy to clean and water sheeting fairly well (but AF Lather rinses so well). It is time for its first polish (finishing polish) ever and a new coat of protection (product TBD).

I don't understand how Rupes21 can finish so darn good using Rupes green pad that feels coarse and Rupes Quarz Gloss medium.

Followed up with Amigo and Cool Wave blue pad.

LSP Victorias Concours.

I washed the Dakota...

  • Washed with Chem Guys Mr Pink with PMBG Chenille MF miitt
  • Wheels cleaned with Chem Guys Mr. Pink and microfiber towel
  • Jambs wiped down with Mothers Showtime
  • Tires dressed with Poorboys Bold n Bright

The Blackfire Black Ice is sheeting slower on the upper surfaces. It still sheets nicely on the sides. I will probably put something on top after next wash to perk up the slickness.

Chem Guys Mr. Pink This was my first use..

Usage notes based upon 1 ounce per 2 gallons dilution
  • nice sweet scent (CG calls it candy)
  • Concentrate much thinner in consistency than Maxi-suds
  • Suds were less dense and dropped as time went on but re-generated with agitation
  • Coated paint easily,
  • very easy to rinse (unlike Maxi-Suds), no issues a 85 F with problems drying on paint
  • cleaning ability - no challenge with this maintainance wash
  • Added Gloss: need to wait until tomorrow

How long since you applied??

It has been about 8 or 9 weeks. There is still protection (cleans and dries easily) but it sits outside 24x7 and have to deal with pine trees and bird stuff.

Washed the wife's Sonata today.

Washed with Shampoo Plus using 4 sea sponges.
Cleaned tires with Tuff Shine Tire Cleaner.
Washed wheels with Fast 505 and hand mop.
Dressed tires with Mother's Back To Black Tire Shine.
Coated wheels with BFWD.
Dressed wheel wells with Tire Foam.

It's been 3 weeks since the exterior glass was sealed with BFWD. Beading and sheeting hasn't diminished.
It's been four months since paint was sealed with BFWD and two layers of BFMS. Beading and sheeting still very respectable after 12 washes.
Shine is absolutely beautiful. I'm holding out until fall for a redo.

The longevity is hard to gauge on her car. She drives 1.5 miles per day, to and from work, for a total of 3 miles and parks indoors. So I guess her car is a garage queen.
