What did you do detailing wise today?

Jaddie, I am older than you but I have been exercising on a treadmill to build stamina and lose a little weight.

I had the fan in the garage going so that helped a lot. I also played with the Rupes 15 and also played with a sample of Sonus Finishing Polish (trying instead on PO85RD). It was not oily like Menzerna and seemed to dry out quickly or did not use enough. I just tried it on one panel a couple times before getting on with the real work with something I knew.

I still like my Flex...pad never slows down. The Rupes has to run at speed 4 to resist a speed change under pressure but noticed no speed change after speed 5 to speed 6 (not sure if that is bad).
 
Does recovering from a 14 hour detail yesterday count?

Went to Cars & Coffee and another club meet to see customers and network.
 
Organized my cleaning supplies cabinet and cleaned the garage floor (meaning I blew all the crap out the doors with the air compressor haha). I ran out of things to clean on my cars so I essentially cleaned cleaning supplies, sad.

Al mine is the same way. I thought that was an issue too but I think thats just how they are.

I will let you know but have stuff to trade (Meg's APC+). I have way to many APC's and protectants.

I finished up my car this am.

  • Applied coat of Blackfire Midnight Sun - Menz. Power Lock was quite slick.
  • Cleaned glass with Sprayway (exterior) and Poorboy's Glass Cleaner (interior)
  • Tires dress with Mother's Reflections Tire Care
  • Applied Poorboy's Bold n Bright to wells and windshield cowling
  • Applied Mothers Cleaner Wax to all plastic chrome
  • Applied Mothers Spray Wax to chrome wheels to add bling
  • Clean up Ultima WW+, DP Total Interior Cleaner (used on external platic trim) to mostly remove tape marks and some dust

I drove it and really like how Blackfire Protectant left the coated leather seats.

Al I have an official answer to your question about the speed setting and the Rupes from KB:

Verified through e-mail correspondence with Marco D'Inca, the engineer that designed the BigFoot:

Kevin:
"Could you please explain the speed setting dial?
It is not linear, and although there may be an increase in RPM above 4.5 to 5.0, it is seemingly imperceptible."

Marco:
"The speed setting is not linear. What is linear is the RMS voltage output.
This makes the wheel more sensitive on lower speed settings, and more accurate near the maximum speed settings."

Dear Nth Degree

I was thinking of your post while putting a coat of BFWD on the van this afternoon.

I think I could have done a fourteen-hour detail when I was a teenager up through about age twenty-two.

A fourteen-hour detail isn't in me now at age 43 and probably never will be.

I might be able to reach out to four hours, but I definitely wouldn't be touching any rags the next day.

How old are you?
 
Went and grabbed the other Friday inspected today. Looks good here but Dealer detailed and touch less tunneled the past year plus Track days.
This will need gaged before I start.

I'm 37. I'm usually wiped out after an 8 hour day and am usually careful about not scheduling big jobs on consecutive days. I could barely stand up straight when I was done. I wanted to break the detail up over two days, knowing that it wouldn't be easy but the owner asked if I could get it done for Cars & Coffee the next morning. I figured the advertising value was worth it to push and since I planned to attend a couple of different car meets I knew I could rest. As a bonus he asked for a quote to OC his white Avalanche.

You guys make me feel a little better that I'm not getting too old. At 41 I'm doing details at night after restoration till 5 if I'm not creating dust. Friday at noon shop gets cleaned and blown out and major correction jobs start. Go as late as I can pull out the sleeping bag for a few hours and get back at it. Have to have those out by Monday. Hoping to have enough work steady where I can hire but it does get tiring. Just glad my wife stops in so I can see my boy.
