What did you do detailing wise today?

inside all weekend. nasty weather. but ordered......

cobra guzzler towels
32 oz refill of hydro
pb spray & rinse wheel cleaner

Yesterday. Finished up the Peterbuilt I've been working on. Of course, I forget the camera AGAIN! 2 down, 2 to go.

I did get to use the Rupes a little yesterday.

My comments:
1. The rear end is just as long as the Flex so a consideration with hand/body position compared to the PC. The line cord was on the stiff side. For people with short arms, this is a consideration.

2. Very refined whirring sound at speed. Flex has a more gear grinding sound. The vibration overall is comparable - both nice.

3. The finger switch behaves a little different than the Flex. It is just on or off compared to the progressive action by the Flex. It will lock.

4. The Rupes has a soft start and goes slightly over speed before stabilizing. The speed control is very easy to use - enough detent to prevent accidental movement.

5. The overhang at the front seemed a little smaller than the Flex.

6. Plenty of power.

7. The backing plate keeps a tenacious grip on pads.

Refined a "Sharkskin" body kit. It was custom painted. It's for a 2012 AMA Triumph 675R Daytona. It was one of the first to arrive in the country.
We added the same pearl to the black. Also added black accents w/pearl to nose and tail. Paint by Keith Vanhoose. Primer block and finish me.

The smoothness of the LHR 15 allowed me to compound/polish with one hand in delicate areas. This composite body is super thin.

The flake. Owner did not want this sanded flat, just like factory peel. This bike is track only now.

I got to wash the wife's car today...

Products used:
  • Chem Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss - tires and wells
  • DoDo Juice Born to Be Mild - paint, using the better perfect wash method
  • A couple mf chenille wash mitts (new ones sold by PBMG)
  • Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner
  • Mothers Back to Black Tire Renew - tire rubber
  • Optimum Power Clean - wells, barrels
  • Chem Guys Speed Wipe - jambs

The products I used for the first time were:

Sonax Wheel Cleaner - no color show, I must keep the wheels clean

Mothers Back to Back Tire Renew - after the wash, I noticed OPC really did not remove all the tire brown so I tried the Mothers and really did a nice job. The application method is just spray on and wipe off so need to deal with the hose. An excellent candidate for a rinseless wash tire cleaner. I definitely plan to do a review of this soon.

More tomorrow....apply an LSP (maybe Prima), dress the tires, clean the glass.

Started a 97 Peterbuilt. Paint is really bad. Lots of buffing to do. About 5 and a half hours on the hood alone.

I finished up the wife's car

Today...

Poorboys Spray and Wipe - surface prep (water spots)
Poorboys Bug Squash 3:1 -plastic cowling
Do Do Juice Purple Haze (not pro) - paint
Chem Guys Inner Clean - interior
Blackfire Protectant - dash
Mothers VLR - back seats, steering wheel
Mothers Tech Leather cleaner/conditioner - front seats
Mothers Cleaner Wax - on exterior plastic chrome
Poorboys Bold n Bright Gel - wells
Optimum Opti-Bond Gel - tires
Ultima Waterless Wash - wheels
Sprayway Glass cleaner - exterior
Meguiars Glass Cleaner - interior

New products this time.

DoDo Juice Purple Haze (once I got it out of the small sampler container) went on very easy, let it haze, then removed. Applied with a Rupes 15 with a LC ultrasoft white pad (now it is purple, did not rinse clean). I really liked the one handed operation of the Rupes on the roof thanks to the narrow body.

This was applied on top of an old WGDPS application. It was showing its time at 10 weeks or so.

Well I got my hose fixed. The hose going into my inline water filter cracked. It gave me a chance to get my work car (Dodge Charger) cleaned up.

Wash with DG901
OCW
Optimum Tire Shine

I also put a coat of V7 on my Dodge Ram and cleaned up the engine and treated with 303.

All and all a productive 2 days detail wise :)

Oh what a day. It was still a bit cooler than normal this year but had a chance to start the spring detailing of my daily driver after the motivating drive to Detail Fest. I came back itching to clean it up.

Today, I did the prep for the paint cleaning and protection tomorrow.

Products used:
CG Citrus Wash and Gloss: - wheels/wells
Sonax Full Effect wheel cleaner: - not much of a visual show..chrome stays clean
Optimum Power Clean: tires
P21s Total Autowash: cowling, bug removal bug. I really like the clingy behavior
Adams Car Wash mixed with Optimum Power Clean - strip/clean the paint. It did the trick in a foam cannon. Lots of sticky suds
Autogeek microfiber chenille wash mitt - has one of the softest interiors of as any wash mitt
Adam's Car Wash - worked well with the wash mitt
CG Speed Wipe - Jams

Using my personally designed wash method, cleaning the wheel area and the jambs are really the time eaters compared to the paint.

Tomorrow...subject to change:
WG Paint Enhancer or Poorboys Pro Polish
Menzerna Powerlock
Blackfire Midnight Sun - will follow on Monday
Polish and seal glass with Pinnacle Glass Sealant

After wash and during jamb cleaning

Finished
