What did you do detailing wise today?

I keep a roll of scotch tape in my glovebox for windshield rock chips: by sticking a piece of tape over the chip ASAP you`ll prevent air from getting in and making the crack worse. Just had a nasty chip fixed on my wife`s car - got nailed by a rock while on vacation - using tape prevented the crack from growing and was fixed 2 weeks later.

Dang. Been there too. Hope your insurance is covering both windshields!!
 
Thanks. I`m gonna let this one be for awhile; it`s low on the windshield near the wipers, and will still pass inspection. Doesn`t look all that great, but I don`t want to keep hitting up my insurance a bunch.

So it`s gonna be a long afternoon into evening but it`s worth it as it`ll only have cost me $225 to do front struts, outer tie rods, sway bay links, rear shocks and springs

That`ll be after Friday when I get paid

And it might be cake walk for someone with more knowledge I only have an idea and shade tree experience lol. Actually I have a one yr degree as auto maintenance tech but not a lot of actual experience. After the one year course I decided it wasn`t worth starting a custom shop and it was better to do just detailing

Broken coils, BAD. The fact that you don`t need to compress the front springs to replace the struts makes it a much simpler job. You`ll have no problem unless it`s rust. In my experience auto repair goes like this: a mindset that 50% of the job is understanding that it isn`t how hard something is to do but rather a matter of how long it will take you to do it. The proper tools makes up 25% of the job and the other 25% is mechanical ability which includes experience. Your getting the experience doing the job so you`ve got most of what you need before you begin, win/win. :) Good on you for doing it yourself.

Worked from 8a - 1030p everyone was sleeping so I decided to give my truck and the wife`s a wash.

well all but tie rods done but man am I beat. Gotta get a cut off wheel for the tie rod bolt and not sure how I`m gonna loosen the lock but on back of tie rod as it`s rusted to the tie rod. Gonna see how well it`ll move once I cut the bolt that connects the rod to the hub assembly

Use a Pickle Fork. I wouldn`t be surprised if AutoZone had one they`d let you borrow under their purchase and return at full value program. Even better get a pnuematic one if you have air available.

Just re-read this, are you having trouble with the threaded end? Leave the ball and socket on, don`t cut. They make a socket that fits over the stud of the ball and stud that you can use to turn the threaded end out if it`s a frozen.

just got a call (referral from a client) who says he`s looking at a Black Bentley and Black Rolls and they need my love and he said he`s been talking me up....

and here I was just saying I can`t remember my last referral, lol

hopefully these end up in my garage soon :)

I ended up getting vice grips and that worked like a charm without needing the cut off wheel I just have to do the other side and put all back together tonight after work. Woohoo almost done lol

Plus I have a pickle fork it didn`t keep the bolt part of tie rod from spinning

The things I`m stuck doing for my wife lol. Didn`t have a truck handy so had to put in trunk like so to bring home to steam clean to be able to be used lol
