burned a customers paint today. cool huh? not something you see everyday lol

was chasing this scratch to perfection. it was a longer scratch, about 2 inches long to the right. the customer bought it used about 2 months ago, i noticed it had a bit of touch up paint on it but didn`t think anything of it.
followed my typical quick compound over it and it started to clear up the scratch a bit. so i wanted it to be perfect and gone, measured directly on the scratch and i got 5.3 mils. i thought, good i got some clear to work with. switched pads and worked it a little more, as soon as i lifted and looked at the pad, i knew i was screwed.
measured directly on the burned area and it was 4 mils. measured back on the scratch and it was 5.1 mils. i should have measured the area where my pad area would be. lesson learned. we will bring it to the bodyshop tomorrow and see what the damage will cost

looking back at the area burned, it is where the panel starts to curve out. i`m guessing someone has tried to polish the scratch out before and took off quite a bit of clear before i got to it.
oh well. live and learn..... the hard way
