What did i do wrong?

hey guys, im kind of new with my PC (only used a few times) and i recently got a bottle of Optimum HC and Optimum PS. my car was neglected to some degree paint wise for a year and there was visible swirling as well as very very fine scratches.



i used the optimum HC with a yellow pad (lake country) at around 3000rpm over the whole car and then i used the poli-seal at around 2500 rpm with a black finishing pad.



my only problem is most of the swirling and scratches are still there and i was hoping most of it would be gone...what could some of the things im doing be wrong? even when i slowed down my pace and spent more time on each panel the results were still the same...any suggestions?

what do you mean 3000 rpms?? PC's don't go by that, only rotarys, unless you mean speed setting 3 on a PC. If so, then you should have been using the pc at 5-6.

ah yes thats what i mean, i had it on speed 3 for most of the time. would going up to 5 or 6 make a monster difference?
 
yes speed six is essential for correction in my book, optimum takes a long time to completely break down by pc so make sure you work each panel for about five minutes (if not longer). i don't know if OPS will have enough correcting power if you induce marring with the OHC. good luck.
 
Thanks. even though i applied OPS, tomorrow will it be ok to take another crack at it with OHC to get rid of those nasty swirls, or will i have to wash down first?
 
From what I have heard OPS will indeed take out the marring OHC induces. Just be sure to fully break down OHC. And yes, definitely go with speed 6. You may have to try it with a white pad though. But see what you can do with the black pad first.

Did you drive it? If you did then yes, you should definitely wash it. (sorry for stating the obvious). If no then just go at it and be patient. Enjoy.
 
i drove it for literally 2 minutes and its been in the garage ever since...i guess if i wanna get the job done right ill just do a quick wash. thanks for the help ill post up some results to see if it worked!

I think using a black LC pad would be a total waste of time. It isn't dense enough to cause enough heat to even take out the lightest marks. Try white and then move to orange/yellow.



I use the black pad to apply my glazes. And then the blue to apply waxes/sealants.
