What did I do wrong - torn LC pad

Oh yeah, to cut back on product build up on the pad, spur them often with a special foam pad spur like you know who sells (:O) or just a plain ol' toothbrush,

Turn the PC on lowest setting and just run the brush over the surface of the pad, then you could wash with the warm water as indicated.

If someone has a defective pad from misuse, theres not much i can do. If someone has a defective pad in manufacturing, I will replace it. If you send me the defective pad, I will ship a new replacement. The cutting around the edge of the velcro is from to much pressure being applied to machine, causinge backing plate or loop egde to cut into foam pad. If anyone has a problem, please email me at eric@lakecountrymfg.com . Thanks you and we appreciate your business. A happy customer is a repeat customer.

Cutting around the edge of the velcro = too much pressure = misuse = not much you can do.

What size backing plate does LC recommend w/ the 6.5" pad?

edit: I think I found what I was looking for: http://www.lakecountrymfg.com/backplates.html

I've been bitching about LC pads here and at DC for the last three months and haven't gotten any sympathy. Guess I wasn't expressing myself clearly.

I can't run my PC at speeds higher than 4.5 or the pads will tear to pieces. It's got nothing (or almost nothing) to do with pressure or "misuse".

Don't know about you guys, but I'm not buying any more LC products.

I think its because of the backing plate being too big, since i changed my backing plate to the 5" i havent had any problems. Before i used the big bp that came with the pc and it cut into almost all my 6" pads so i then purchased the 8". its hard to say if its a user problem but im happy w/my LC pads regardless of where i get them from. Seems to me i had more problems w/ my megs pads as opposed to the LC or Edge. But now that i have upgraded to the smaller backing plates i have no problems.

Besides i dont think that some light cutting from the backing plate isnt going to effect the performance of the pad anyway so just live w/it:xyxthumbs. Now you know to use a smaller bp and move on... Live & learn

Note that I was using the 5" backing plate with a 6.5" pad.

I'm trying to figure this whole PC thing out, and having equipment fail on me is really frustrating. Not knowing whether I was the problem or the pad was the problem really compounds my frustration.

If I wanted to just live with, what I view as, problems I wouldn't have gotten the PC in the first place.

I still have one more polishing pad that isn't damaged. I guess its performance will help me decide which brand to purchase next.

When I originally purchased my PC, I purchased it with 8 pads like the one pictured in the original post. Upon my very first detail using the setup, 3 of the 8 pads were ruined and all I did was use them as recommended. I emailed Autopia about the problem and my free replacements were in the mail immediately but that one experience was enough to stop me from ever buying that type of pad again. Since then, I have purchased another 8 LC pads except this time I got the 7.5" pads with the 6" backing plate and never looked back. I reserve the 6" flat pads for very light duty, like applying AIO and removing wax residue. All polishing duty is reserved for the 7.5" pads that can handle the pressure.

We all know that the 6" pads tear apart if any pressure more than the actual weight of the PC is applied, so why do it? Until LC makes the necessary changes to their 6" pads, I will be using the 7.5's from now on, and would highly recommend them to everyone. I'm not saying the 6" pads are worthless, I'm just saying that they are too delicate for polishing.:nixweiss

After I nearly cut half way through my orange pad and had orange dust everywhere, I designed the protection ring. I am still using that cut up orange pad, with pressure, to "power scrub" my shower stall bottom. (It's been retired from auto duty.) Really gets down into the non-slip texture ...and the point is...

I believe when all pad makers (like the Edge 6" pads) put velcro to the edge, none of us will have that "cut" problem again.

BTW...."recycled" 5 quart plastic ice cream buckets make great 6" pad storage containers. You can get four pads, each in a seperate zip lock bag, into the bucket with plenty of room.:usa

Then try and see if they offer the LC in the 6.5 w/ the protective backing like they d w/ the 7.5 you can call detailersparadise for that

:grrr There goes my second polishing pad! Tried again today with S100 SEPC. Since its so mild I knew I wouldn't be tempted to apply any pressure at all. I never consciously applied pressure, and most of the time I was trying to barely hang on to the PC. Used it on my roof, hood, and front fenders. When I got done I noticed similar ripping on the pad I used today. Unfortunately, I'm not sure exactly when the damage happened. I only noticed it after I got done with the second fender (immediately preceded by the hood). Maybe I was doing something wrong around the belt line through the fender.

I've read and reread David's article on the PC and can't figure out what the hell I'm doing wrong. Maybe I need to try the new Sonus pads with the little cup to hold the backing plate :nixweiss
