What did I buy!!!

I went on a little buying binge product wise and was hoping I could get some initial feedback on which product/s to use first and in what order.

The list goes like this:

Clay Magic

Megs FD (gallon)

Megs #26 Paste

Megs #81 Hand Polish

Megs #20

Poorboy's EX

Not to mention a PC, pads from CMA, 4 different manufacters MF's. All of this for a new Silver Lexus which I am finally picking up this week. Wife knows I have a screw loose (or two).

Working with the above list of products which would you use for this vehicle?

P.S. It is killing me not to buy P21S, Klasse twins, Zaino, et al.

That's a long list of products there, but IMO, many of them are incompatible. A glaze like #81 might work well with a wax like EX, and #26 (a non-cleaner wax) might be good topper for #20 (synthetic sealant), but all four of them won't work well together (or just aren't necessary!)

Hey there! Good to hear things are going well, haven't seen you around the LOC in a while ;)

You're definately set up there! Remember to make sure that the dealer doesn't detail it before you take delivery. Tell them to not even wash it. I'd wash it well (what kinda wash did you buy, any wash mitts?) clay it (I use the car was suds as a lube. Wash a panel, rinse, resoap, clay, rinse move on) dry it real well (if you dont take time drying the PC will vibrate water from places you didnt even know water could go). Once its washed clayed and dried, then it should be pretty pristine. Check it out really well in bright sunlight to make sure there are no swirls (you dont have a swirl remover there, but I would think Megs #82 SFP with a white pad would get rid of anything that might be on there). Then I'd bust out a white pad and go to town with that 81 hand polish, then finish it off with at least two coats of EX (keep the pressure light and the speed around 1/5-2 for all coats after the first) and you should be set.

I've never used #20, but I expect that its probably going to be pretty redundent next to the EX. You could top the EX with the #26 (hell, why not) if you want.

Good luck!

Ahhhhh yes........ the classic newbie mistake of focusing on products and not process or procedures. I've seen it a million times.....:nono

On behalf of Meguiar's Inc., I'd like to thank you for your generous purchase. Our sales have not met recent expecations but with customers like you, we'll be back in black before you can say "Gold Class sucks!"

OK, dispensing with the sarcasm, it looks like you bought a bunch of the same products with different names on them. #20 and #26 fill the same role, a final protection coat. EX is a lot like #20 as both have mild cleaning ability along with providing some protection. If it were me I'd return the #26 and either the #20 or EX. The end result of these 3 products are basically the same so why have them?

The #81 was a good choice for a new car as was the FD. Keep them.

Use the clay if you need it. If you don't need it, hang onto it. You'll need it eventually.

With some of your refund $$, buy some shampoo, cotton chenille mitts, wheel cleaner, tire cleaner, glass cleaner, an all purpose cleaner, tire dressing, and all kinds of tools and apps to apply these products. You will use all these products every time you wash the car. Of course I'm assuming you have none of these in stock.

How's that for a shopping list? :idea If the wife complains, wind her up, stick a gold card in her hand and drop her off at Crate and Barrel. That'll keep her occupied (can you tell I'm not married?) :bigups

I agree for the most part here. I think he should definately clay though especially because the car is silver. We dont want any imbedded rail dust causing rust spotting down the road.

If I can make one suggestion, pick up some Poorboys Spray and Wipe, even if you decide to return the EX and stay with #20. Its one of the most versitile and excellent products in my detailing cabinet. I use it in place of even glass cleaner now. The EX is excellent also though.

I'd also hang onto the #26. Its a good quality pure carnuaba, you may like the look of the EX or #20 (whichever you stick with) topped, and you'll never know until you try it.

Just remember that the EX needs at least 2 coats to look its best, and you should wait 24 hours before topping it w/ carnuaba.

Don't know, thats what Steve reccomends. I've only topped EX once with S100 and wasn't impressed by the difference. I'm ainxious to try his Natty's Carnuaba or maybe some Carnuaba moose and see if it creates more depth.

I usually do not wait more than an hour. It is basically personal preference. Steve DID answer this before.....here is the post

I guess the preference is looks or the best durability.
