What detailing products do you carry in the car?

For daily drivers for local runs.... Nothing. I wait to I get home and use plenty of what is needed (water, solvent, QD, soft towels or MF, etc) to rectify problem.

I have faith in my protectant.

I am very picky where I park. Never under trees (sap and birds) or near grassy areas (sprinklers).

The protectan can't reject finger smudges ;)

Since the one day we went out in the backcountry/backpacking and my car was full of mud and the windows were basically unviewable and ran out of windshield washer fluid and heading west as the sun was setting and only had a little bit of drinking water left and some newspaper and about 250 miles to home and miles away from a store/gas station. I decided then and there to carry something, never again will I go thru that.

Regular local driving:

a bottle of QD, a glass cleaner, water and about 10 MFs

One time I came out to my car and it was visited by a HUGE flock of segals....I had to use a lot of MFs

For long road trips, I'll add some more water, QEW, a cheillle sponge, a WW and more MFs.

I like to have Spray & Wipe and Bird Sh#t Remover on Hand and a Pakshak Ultra Fine for dusting the interior (white). I keep a Wayne's plush in the trunk for touchup work.

Another product folks here may not be familiar with is ROR: Residual Oil Remover, a lens cleaning solution popular with pro photographers that works well for cleaning sunglasses.

the usual stuff...

CCD, z6/z8, nxt insane shine (and tireswipe, IG, and a variety of MF's.

Where do you guys get those little bottles?

Always prepared to use #82 and #80 by hand with no protection to cover up with? :)

And why #34 AND Last Touch - one's basically a replacement for the other, right? I certainly appreciate the interior treatments. Always good to have those on hand for right when something happens. Maybe I need to add a couple of those myself.

I carry my OXO duster, a 4oz spray of #34 or Z6/8 and a few MFs in the trunk. Then I have a Pakshak Ultra 16x16 shoved between the passenger seat and transmission tunnel (yeah, there's no storage in this car) for dust duty on the dash, console, seats. Believe me, it gets a workout in a convertible.

Everything else can wait. I stay local. On long trips, I know it'd be a much more suitable selection :)

the bottles: specialtybottle.com is where I've gotten mine. Quite a little selection and darn cheap! Shipping is likely to cost more than the bottles.

What do you mean no protection to cover up with? Yes, I can use them both by hand. Basically to test spots on a car to see how bad they really are. My little stash is not only for me, but when I look at a customers car and see what is what. I can QEW a section of a car to clean it, look at how bad swirls truly are, see how bad a scuff may be, etc.

#34 and last touch are different products. I like them for different uses. I'm sure you have different types of the same type of product ;)

Man I feel stupid. I only carry some QD and a microfiber. On a trip I'll have some wax, qd, qew, and a few more MF, but thats about it.

Always have S & W and an array of mf towels. Can be used for bugs, bird crap, windows and a wash if necessary. I also carry a one step cleaner wax PWC for touch ups if necessary.

There are some great ideas here!

At all times....

-Meguiar's Interior Quik Detailer + Interior Microfiber

-Meguiar's Final Inspection + Plush Exterior Microfiber

-Occassionally the OXO car duster.

For extended stays/trips...

-Add 32 oz. QEW mix with water (used as Spray and Wipe type product) + Waffle Weave MF

-Glass Cleaner (NXT) + Glass MF

But the Folex and Woolite idea is great! I would never carry polishes, though...I don't have a need for them.

Just a quick OT question for Aequitas:

Do you have any sling with Insane Shine?

Thanks!

Carl clean out your PM inbox!!!

Why do you guys carry glass cleaner? Is it just for the windshield to get rid of bugs? If so, I would think carrying QEW or S&W would be better, since it could be used on the other parts of the car as well. :nixweiss
