what causes SWIRLS?

ok im going to post this as MANY people have different thoughts on this...................

what causes swirls?HEAT..............what causes heat?......... FRICTION......what causes fricton? .......a high speed buffer. :buffing: PERIOD.

there is NOTHING that causes swirls except a high speed buffer......

swirls are those marks that appear to "move" when you move your standing position.

i dont care what anybody says, thats the only thing that creates swirls. PERIOD.

when u wash or wax or wipe or whatever and you create "marks" on your paint, those are NOT swirls those are micro scratches.

heres an example of a swirlmark...........

I refer to those as holograms. They move around when you do, just like a hologram would.



Those obviously came from an improperly used rotary.



What I refer to as "swirls", can be caused by anything abrasive, causing marring on the paint.

incorrect!!

that is not a swirl therefore the reason for my post......

there is a difference between a "anything abrasive, causing marring on the paint" and a swirl.

again a "swirlmark" can ONLY be created by a high speed buffer.

just tring to educate people on EXACTLY what a "SWIRL" really is. :xyxthumbs
 
I think the term "swirl" is used to describe multiple defects, just like glaze and polish is used to describe multiple products. The whole industry is filled with terms that are not standardized. I see it very often used to describe the typical marring that vehicles have, caused by improper washing, drying, automatic car washes, etc...



So in your terminology, what are these?

^^^ those are NOT swirl marks.....they are micro scratches like you said "caused by improper washing, drying, automatic car washes, etc..." (NOT HEAT!!)
 
Well, no offense, but I call those swirls too, regardless of what you call them. I call the things in the first pictures you posted holograms. Whether I am "wrong" or not, that's what I call them.
 
And who's to say which terms are correct? The defects in my picture are most often referred to as "swirls" by manufacturers and consumers alike, so I think it's more confusing to label the defects in your picture as "swirls".

like i said im just tring to PROPERLY inform people what a swirl mark is..........like i said HOW do you create a swirl???????

HEAT.

can you create swirls with a PC? no? why not????=not enough heat.

can you create swirls with a high speed? YES? WHY????= HEAT.
 
why are you being such a stickler to this though? looking at the pictures a person would call them both swirls. it's a swirl cuz it goes around in a circle. by my standards the first picture is of holograms. like previously mentioned they'll follow you when you move. It's very easy to explain holograms to someone just with that. But to tell them a swirl is not a swirl to them is an utter waste of time. Call it what you want... but correct it properly and it's all good. :)



now true, the second picture we here would consider that micro-marring or spiderwebbing. By definition a swirl goes around in a circular motion. So it would not be incorrect to say that the second picture shows swirl marks. Is not a scratch also a mark?

why is everybody being so rude :think: :furious: and saying this when im just tring to make a terminology correction and EDUCATE people?

what makes a pro a pro?.....education and experience.

ive been doing this all my life and am just tring to help others learn all aspects and without a "teacher" it will take twice as long to learn IMO

so again this post is for those that WANT to LEARN not argue.
