Not a detailing (or car related at all!) poll, so I figured this goes better in here...

What browser do you use for most of your web browsing?

Firefox, but I still have IE for those VERY rare instances that firefox wont work. Firefox is my main one.

I use Mozilla 1.7.2 for MOST of my browsing, but still keep IE around for those few sites that won't work with Mozilla. :(

I love the multiple tabs & no pop-ups of Mozilla!! :D

Some of the FireFox extensions are pretty useful, too (enhanced tabs, weather reports in the status bar, highlight a link and make a TinyURL from the popup menu, etc.). Check out the FireFox homepage for info.

Also, Thunderbird (the e-mail "companion" to FireFox) rocks. I'd only been sticking with Outlook because I'd found a Bayesian filter plugin that did a decent job (fuzzy logic for filtering spam). Turns out T-bird has a very intelligent spam filter that, IMO, works better than the plugin I was using in Outlook. There's a link to Thunderbird on the FireFox homepage, too . . . check it out if you're looking to get out from under the generally less-than-secure M$ alternatives.

Yea, the extensions are my favorite part.. well, and the tabs.. There's even an extension to list what extensions you have:

I use Firefox but from time to time it does say the webpage is unavailable when I know its the browser not the the page. Anyone ever run into that? I have updatted and it still happens.

As far as the pop ups, even with IE if you use the google bar pop ups are a thing of the past for me. I cant imagine using a browser with Pop ups, they must prey on the people who cant/wont install a blocker

After reading this thread, I downloaded Opera 8.0 to see what all the buzz was about, and I find it to be......*okay*. I don't find it to be any faster or slower than IE, but is a bit more difficult to use. Granted, I am new to Opera so I'm sure I would get used to eventually, but I think I am going to stick with IE for now.

Maybe the speed difference is noticed more with a slower connection like dial-up or a budget DSL. ??

The new 2.0 version of Safari is the fastest browser I have ever seen. It loads pages in a blink of an eye...It just arrived at the Apple stores today as part of Tiger.

What the heck is Konqueror? I've never heard of that...

Safari is for Apple only, right?

Just downloaded Firefox and I am impressed. Extremely easy to use, and very fast. As long as it holds up to its reputation for security, I have a new browser.

Linux/Unix browser that is part of the K Desktop Environment (KDE). The engine that it uses to render webpages is called KHTML and is open source. Apple borrowed KHTML and built Safari on it. Like good members of the community, they contribute code back to the KDE team

The engine that Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape, et al use is called Gecko. Much like how several cars can be based on the same chasis but have different sheetmetal :)

Surprised by the amount of Firefox users.. most webstats say that Firefox has at most 20% of the market share. I wonder what David's server stats say for Autopia :nixweiss
