What backing plates do you prefer?

Come again? I'd hate to see the results of 30 minute details, assuming an 8 hour day. You used the same exact backing plate on 25-30 cars a day? Even working 24 hours a day, you are spending less than 1 hour per car total polishing. Sorry, but I am just having trouble with the math. :nixweiss

Forget Backing Plates Go with the edge 2k adapter. The new one is Shorter and is much better now..

No centering No velcro No Problems

I had 8 detailers working for me doing complete details. We were open 6 days a week. Add it up. If you ever get a chance, go to a large dearler auction. Check out their backing plate and ask them how long they've had it. They do 100's a full details daily. And each one get rubbed out. I know they don't change pads on every car, but the backing plate lasts forever.
 
*knock on wood, I've been using my Meguiars bp for over a year now with no problems. I do have an excel bp as a backup though....

You guys with continuous backing plate problems should think about changing over to the Edge 2000 pad system . Like Holland Patrick said they made the PC adapter shorter as well as the rotary adapter . Now both adapters come with a lifetime warranty . :buffing:

When you use the word "I" we take it to mean that. How much time did your crew actually spend per car polishing? Couldn't have been long if you are doing that many cars per day with 2 buffers and backing plates. Did y'all bascially just do auction prep and not 2-4 step polishing jobs?

It would be nice if you read before you post! As mentioned above, I had 2 high speed wheels(each had a backing plate) and a few of the detailers had their own wheel(with backing plate). How is this being a tight-*** boss????????? :hairpull

For dealer cars they spent between 30 minutes - 1 hour of just wheeling out each car. This is after the car was already prepped and this does not include final wipe down.

For customer cars they would spend much more time depending on what process needed to get done.

Dealership detail jobs didn't get nearly the attention that the retail customers did. Dealers were happy with what they got for the money they were spending($80-$95). If a dealership car needed extra reconditioning, we would charge more depending.
 
If your goining to buy a backing plate, buy the best one possible. Most of the time when one automatically comes with a polisher, it's not that good. I used Auto Magic's backing plates and had very good luck. Just keep it clean, free of lint, and make sure not to set your wheel on it's side resting on the backing plate.

I did read, but what I gleaned from reading was that your shop did 25,000 cars in that period, which at first you said was all on one backing plate. Then you said that you had 2 backing plates, and some of the detailers had their own. Initially it was a little difficult to understand how you could do so many cars with just one "wheel", but now it's a little clearer.
