What backing plates do you prefer?

I put a replacement plate on today and I am thinking about ordering a backup....does anyone have a preference. I had a standard Megs plate before but it seemed not to last very long.

What is the lifespan of these plates anyway?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions...

I'm not sure of the longevity of the plates, but I have two LC flexible backing plates for my rotaries that have held up pretty well. I'm sure the would replace them if the went prematurely.

I would also recommend flexible backing plate for a PC.

I dunno... I've had 2 lake country small plates for 4" pads die on me after only a few short polishing jobs. That and the velcro material melts into the cloth part of the pad after extended use with 4" pads. I'm currently looking for another manufacturer of backing plates.

I have LC flexible velcro for the PC and Vector rotary from CMA.. Got a flexible velcro pad for the chicago rotary from EXCEL. Both have been more than adequate for my needs. Would recommend either.

Same problem I had with the Meguiars backing plate. I've gone through two, so the first one failing was not a fluke and the problem hasn't been corrected.

I have the Sonus flexible backing plate - I assume its made by LC. Its better than the Megs and makes for better polishing.

I did little polishing (mostly glazing and sealant/wax application) with my Meguiar's BP and it failed. The killer for me was that they wanted me to send it back. It only cost a few dollars more to simply get a plate that will likely just work longer. I am now the owner of an Excel BP.

Ten years seems like too long for a backing plate. How much polishing do you do?

I did 25-30 complete details each day, 5-6 days a week for 10 years. There were 2 high speed wheels. So I imagine well over 25,000 cars were buffed with each backing plate.

Thats a lot polishing where did you work doing that many cars a day? What are your favorite waxes and sealants?

Thanks
