What a disgrace - Toronto Autoshow, Pontiac

I was at the Toronto autoshow (Canadian International Autoshow) and was over in the Pontiac section when I saw this. How could they put this on the floor under such unforgiving lights. It is a Pontiac Solstice by the way, looks horrible. The whole car was like this. :bolt

That's nothing. I am going to the Detroit Autorama next weekend. I already know I will see more swirls and bonda waves than ever before. I admire the hard work and money these guys put into their cars but spend a little more time making that $10,000 paint job stand out in a positive way! LOL
 
HAving detailed one of those, I can certainly say the paint is *really* soft. Having said that, man it looks horrible.



I am going to the "new" car and truck show this weekend at the convention center--can't wait to see the swirls. The cars are all detailied by their respective delaerships. :scared:
 
I hope prospective customers arn't turned off by this. This is supposed to be a NEW car, many people arn't as informed as autopians and may think this is how the car will look from the factory.

Walk on by, they'll think you are insane, or try to convince you that *all* clear coats are like that.

I like to talk to them and play dumb instead, and laugh to myself at their ignorance.

Many of the cars at the Tokyo Motor Show (including Aston Martins, Lexus, etc,) end up looking like that, too (though that one does look especially bad!). Though they may have been marred before they were put on display, the main reason is that their reps are constantly rubbing the dry paint with cloths (not MF) day after day, especially to remove the finger prints from the thousands of people who are constantly touching them. Sad but true :soscared:

Oh, well then I better not buy your clear coated car then.



I love doing this at electronic stores. You're checking out, and they offer you an extended warrenty. "Oh, you think it might break? Well, that won't work for me. I'm pretty tough on my stuff. Maybe I should put this back and look into something with better build quality."



That, or shock them. "Naw. Everybody knows you guys sell crap. I just want it to look cool on my shelf."
 
I went to the cleveland autoshow last weekend and all the cars looked like ****. The dealer I work at didnt send any cars though. Those cars get beat on at the shows, people touching every single part on them. We sold an explorer last year that was in the autoshow, and when we picked it up from the other dealer, knobs were missing, handles were broken, leather looked like it had 50k miles on it. They should just throw all the cars that hev been in an autoshow into a fire somewhere

yeah exactly.. whenever i mention swirls most people just look at me like 'whatt :nervous: '
 
Pontiacs in general are pretty horrible. No offense to those who own them, but they have put some absolute trash on the roads. And yes, I have owned one.

no offense man, but I'd much rather drive a Solstice than a CR-V :LOLOL

Maybe it would have been better to say "Pontiacs in general HAVE BEEN pretty horrible". It seems to me that GM products in general have turned the corner in quality and styling, and even Pontiacs are seeing that improvement (I agree that Pontiacs in particular have been pretty sorry until recently).



But I don't think the swirls in the paint of that Solstice have anything to do with that; they were caused by its handlers and/or the crowds.
 
My girlfriend bought a '00 Sunfire in '02 with 30,000 miles on it. Other than regular maintenance (full brake job, full tune-up, and water pump) plus a $15 resistor for the hva/c. and a $30 harness near the fuel tank, the car still runs tip-top with 110,000 miles on it today. Granted I hate the looks of it and it handles like crap (I added a front sway bar because I was tired of getting sea sick around corners) it has been A-1 for her.



As with any brand, your results may vary. I think if you buy nothing but one brand your entire life you will encounter a problem vehicle at some point.

Well, my wife drives it and I have two kids so a Solstice or such isn't even a consideration for us obviously. I would buy a Miata over the Solstice if I were in that market.
