Wetsanding

I have read that wetsanding factory paint is not a good idea because it removes uv protection. I'm curious about thoughts for my specific application on how it would affect it.. My vehicle is garage kept, only comes out during summer sunny days. It sees about 1500-25@@ miles a year. It always is waxed and clean. With this application would it still be a bad idea? I am looking to get a more reflective look and a guy at a local performance shop (whos car is ideal to me) stated wet sanding the factory paint would help achieve that, but I am also not looking to create longterm issues so here I am for some diverse opinions. Thanks

Absolutely you can wetsand factory paint. What type of car is it? Domestic cars have pretty thin clearcoat, but you can make even factory paint look awesome with a good wetsand. You won't have to worry about thinning out factory clearcoat too much, as the UV protection is very stable in modern clear coats.

I agree it can be done, but it's not recommended and I would never push it to the point that I do on cars that have been repainted.

It would be best to have a PTG so you know what you're working with and I don't think I would try and get it 100% level....basically just knock of the high points but don't get it to where it looks totally flat like this. Keep in mind that doing this will leave you with less material for any correction that may be needed later down the road.
