Wet/Dry Vacs

Thanks JP! You saved me from having to look it up! :bigups

got my $20? :cool::thanks:wall:wall:wall:wall:wall:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

I'm aware of more than a few times, that they have warrantied vacs that were very abused looking, no questions asked.

well how are you gonna get around the wear and tear policy. i am not talking about home depots return policy(although i still don't beleive they would take back a 5year old vac) i am talking about the company issuing the warrantee. you may be able to fanagle it some way but i myself don't practice that method of biz.... so u gonna pay or welch?

aagh..thank you very much for looking up that warranty 4 me. but wait just a minute before you rush out to spend my $20 on a crack rock. i beleieve in all of your excitement that u may have actually made a dollar today. you neglected to continue reading the warrantee...under section 3 what is not covered...misuse,abuse,or normal wear and tear. now, if i were to drag one of my 5year old "normal wear and tear" vac's 2 the local home depot and told them to give me a new one they would look at me like i was jacked up as your picture looks!!!:rofl now as for the $20 you owe me. i will either take a $20 credit w/poorboy or if you will promise me you will go and get your lettuce (hair) tightened up i will give you a hand up not a hand out & pick up the tab.(limit the $20 u o me)

Wow.... From the look of your post you seem like you'd know a lot about crack rocks. At least from the portions I can actually read. :bigups

As far as the warranty goes - you wouldn't know unless you tried. I don't think the folks at Home Depot are going to do any kind of breakdowns to try and determine why your vac won't work. Most likely that would just let you swap it out in store.

That's some pretty harsh humor clone. I hope it wasn't meant to attack someone who took the time to bring the warranty to light for us. If it was then we need to have a chat.

I can see where JP could start going off on you now in retaliation but I see he is taking the higher road. :bigups

Now back to the topic....

It looks like you are having a hard time believing a company is going to warranty their product like this. It's nothing new, look at Craftsman. I have returned beat up tools without receipts and walked out with shiny new ones.

It sounds like they are pretty leanient on their wear and tear disclaimer which just tells me that they have vacs that can stand up to quite a bit of abuse.

Now let's forget about the $20 bet and JP's attractive avatar (not him in case you didn't know) and just agree that they have a good warranty.

you guys are killing me :rofl:lmfao

I also don't believe that they will replace the shop vac after a year ... I tried to exchange a lamp that fell apart a few months after buying it without a receipt and had to jump through hoops (quite a funny site for an old fat guy) and finally the manager after a long debate (me yelling and making a scene) gave me store credit(cheapest price the lamp sold for before being discontinued). A motor wearing out after a year or two would be normal service and I doubt that it would be replaced unless it(the model) had a history of poor design.:inspector:

Ridgid will even replace batteries for their cordless tools long after a year. Batteries are definitely wear and tear items. Take it for what it's worth, but I had rather have a chance of coverage than none at all. Even without the warranty, I think Ridgid has the best vacs out. IMO - YMMV

Eric is making all this up because he makes commission off every Ridgid sold in America.

He was hoping to dupe you guys into believing Ridgid goes above and beyond to insure people will be lifelong fans of Ridgid because of their commitment to their customer's satisfaction.

Looks like it's not going to work Eric. These guys are too smart for you.:crazy2:

I didn't really take it that way Troy. I was ribbing with clone a little bit. Although, he can still Paypal me my $20. :D

I should have known better! :surrender:passout:

I wonder if Missdetail ever found a good vacuum.

BETTER YET,I hope missdetail is a female and not someone from mississippi:wall:wall:wall it may explain all the fight'n among family. all u need now is some alcohol(BOOZE) and there wouid be a fist fight! :dcrules

Just want t thank whoever recommended the shop vac contractor model. Picked it up this morning and laughed with joy for the first two hours I used it. Then I stopped laughing because my help texted me and told me that instead of being late he couldn't make it cause he had a party to get ready for. Anyway, vac is absolutely awesome!!! Thanks

Good question. Has the poster been back recently, or will JP add another to his list? :)

my rigid works pretty well for me..12 gallon 5 horse

I have a similar Craftsman, 12 Gallons, 5 Peak HP. It replaced a a Shop Vac, 5 Gallon, 1.25 Peak HP. The Crafstman was an obvious upgrade, and has performed well for >6 years now. What I would like to see is a 5 Gallon, 6.5 HP configuration.

Hopefully everyone is aware that the horsepower ratings we are talking about are "Peak" horsepower and are about as realistic as the car horsepower claims back in the 60's.

One horsepower is approximately 746 watts.
Volts x amps = watts
watts / amps = volts
watts / volts = amps

So a true 5 HP motor would consume 746 x 5 or 3,730 watts. On a 120 volt circuit, it would use 31 amps of power.
Since very few home circuits are more than 20 amps and are most likely going to be 15 amps, it is fairly unlikely that a true 5 HP motor will operate on the average home circuit.

The only thing I know about vacuums is that the so-called 5 HP models seem to work on any home circuit in my house and they also seem to have plenty of power for my use.
I don't know how much better the 6.5 HP models work nor do I know how they can operate on a 20 amp or less circuit.
I think that as long as the amperage rating on the vacuum you are planning to buy is within the rating of the circuit it will be operated on, you should be fine.

One other thing.
I think the NEC requires circuits to be sized at 125% of the operating load which means a 15 amp circuit is actually rated for 12 amps and a 20 amp circuit is rated for 16 amps.

But wait, there's more. :D
Don't just increase a breaker size without increasing the wire size. Too small a breaker will trip. Too small of wire can burn the house down. Having an oversize breaker on an undersized circuit will probably cause you some problems with your insurance claim.

Thanks CharlesW for the textbook version. :) My ex-next door neighbor has the really nice stainless steel tank version, 16 gallon, 6.5 Peak HP. I had the opportunity to use this vac when I helped him clean up a motorhome. There was a definite perecieved difference in suction power between his vac and mine. I also ran the unit off and on for about an hour on a normal 15 amp circuit without a problem.
