Went to Walmart for one thing, left with....alot more than one thing ***PICS***

but I don't know how it compares to the more expensive specialty brands like Viper.

The corners on the Wal-Mart MF are "melted" and trimmed mine the best I could. These towels are...OK. Thin.

The Viking orange towel is MUCH better. Will buy Pak Shak towels next time I need some. FWIW.

I have a few of the BM products, and here are my thoughts:

Bucket ($9.65)-Works pretty well. The only problem I have is a slight floating of the grid when it's moved. It needs a little weight on it or something.

Tire brush($5.37)-Good, stiff bristles-just be careful not to hit your wheels with it. Really takes the 'brown' off.

Wheel brush ($5.37)-My wheels are uncoated aluminuim, so I don't worry too much about scratching them, but the bristles could be a little longer. Usefulness would depend on wheel stlye.

Interior brush w/ little rubber tip($2.27)- Works well for getting in between things like vent surrounds & down in cracks & crevices.

Interior Brush w/ stiff, short bristles($2.27)-Not real impressed-bristles seem to fall out easy.

Vent brust($2.27)-very cool. Takes about 10 seconds to clean each vent.

Overall, for the money, I'm pretty impressed with the BM products. I know there are better products available in each category, but for things I don't need every single time I detail (like the vent brush) they are fine.

That Black Magic chinnile covered sponge, I've got it too, and I'm not fond of it. I threw away my old one a few weeks ago (felt it had been compromised) and that one's internals have flattened out. I also don't have good throughts about how soft the fibers on the outside are. If you read teh package, there is nothing about what the chinnile is actually made of.

It gets replaced tomorrow. My old one held up through 3 times through the washer, and maybe 50+ car washings. This one is dead at four.

I wish I knew what brand the previous one was. I think I got it at Target.

After getting the lame sponge and not liking their QD, I'm off Black Magic for a while.

The big walmart microfiber works great as a drying towel. Although, it can be somewhat tedious to wring out. But if it was dry before use, I have sometimes been able to dry an entire car without wringing it out once. Very absorbant. Actually the only one in it's size that i've seen and very dense/plush.

When you're done drying the car with it, rinse the entire towel with water and notice how heavy it gets with all the water it absorbs.

I've used it on about 5 cars now and did not notice any marring or swirling. Wash before use.

I was at Target over the weekend. I too was able to rack up $70 in detailing supplies. I was surprised to see the NXT line there after the Tech from Meguiars told me it's not available in the East Coast yet :nixweiss

We've had NXT in stores out here for several weeks now. I don't know where he got that information.

Thanks for the heads up about it. Seems I'll still be on the hunt for a good wash sponge that I can find locally...no luck so far.

I feel the same about the sponge. Feels great to the touch, but it didn't have anough cleaning ability for my dirty car. My microfober mit worked wonders better. Might be good for QEW when the car isn't so dirty.

As for the wheel brush....I actually thought the bristles were too soft to clean dirty wheels (obviously my car was dirrrty). Had to add some elbow grease with a sponge.

Hey Marty Grant-

you in ABQ?

If so, which Wal-Mart did you find the big towel...the one near Cottonwood Mall didn't have them Wed. (3/24)?

DomZ

I tried the WalMart towel today. Pretty good but I had better luck with my Waffle Weave drying towel from CMA. It was more "thirsty" in absorbing water.

Howdie, domZ'sp5.

I'm in LC. Wal-Mart has it here, but I didn't post anything about the big towel.

Any good detailing supply stores in the "Duke City"?:usa

When you find the good wash sponge, you let us know. I picked up a Viking (I think) chinille mitt on the way home last night. I'm not fond of mitts. I'm thinking of buying an econo-sponge and stuffing it inside there.

Actually, that's not a bad idea.

Just left my local Walfart...after months of nothing worthwhile in the automotive dept...I just bought the new drying towel. They have all the new blackmagic supplies...even saw the sheepskin wash mit I bought 2 weeks ago......spring has finally sprung!!

I had planned to detail all day tomorrow...weather girl is now predicting rain..all day.....****sigh***:angry

Hey Marty_

Professional Paint Supply is the only one I have found in ABQ. They are off of I-25 at Jefferson exit.

They have all the Megs pro line stuff and lots of 3m goodies...

Other than Pep Boys, Checker and Auto Zone...that's about it...

"Also went to Wal Mart today and bought a 5 Gal. Bucket and a 5-pack of those MicroFiber Towels."

Friends,

Next time you need a bucket Target has a really cool one with a big handle and a straight side (70% is circular) which makes storing a real cinch.

I just bought the wheel brush from walmart today. It has a nice design, and overall I'm very pleased with it's utility.

Used my Walmart drying towel for the first time this weekend. I was really pleased with the results. I'm going to pick up another one to use on the truck.
