added that last bit to lure people into the thread

anyhow....took a bit of a hiatus from this site but im back

i previously drove (still own but looking to sell) a silverstone 350z...i used zaino products with the Z in the past and would definately say i got the results i was looking for

with the new car..a mugello blue audi, i must say i am not AS impressed with the results

on the Z i used all the old zaino products and on the audi i changed to the new line "pro"

i would like to believe that my method on application is somewhat good, but either way its an equal factor because i wasnt any better with my Z

in the pics the audi has z5prox2 and z2prox2 (with z6 in between each coat)...this is after a z7 wash and clay

the Z was detailed by a body shop so i dont know what they used, but its really not there for comparison ... (it really just got in the way of my shot ;)

you might not be able to tell from the pics, but the audi lacks depth...its definately clean and crisp looking...but i was looking for a little bit more depth and wetness....

basically im asking if there is anything i can TOP the zaino with that is easy to use by hand...most importantly somehting that doesnt make the zaino obsolete

thanks for your time and enjoy the pics

seems as though people are going to tell me to use z8

funny...but when i was in the store, i skipped on z8 because i didnt think it could be much different from z6...guess i gotta try it

which brings some questions though....how is z8 diff in composition than z6

and is z8 only recommended at the end of coating with z5 or z2 or also in between

why exactly is z6 recommended in between...i find that sometimes it removes some haze of pesky sealant but if there is no "haze" then whats teh point

Sean: Wow! Congrats!

Gimme a call, I would love to see her in person :).

IMO, Zaino adds a look (like extra clearcoat) over just claying (no polish), but no depth. In order to get depth from your color, I find polishing with a solid finishing polish (Menzerna FPII) followed by a Z6 wipedown, then Z5 Pro, you will have a deep (depth) and wet look.

hey sean...

my skills and/or patience ends at hand application...also definately dont want to test new skills on this car..

right now the zaino will have to suffice as a sealant...before or probably right after the winter we should schedule a good polishing....right now i just cant justify the need for it cause its brand new...although the color, under halogen, does seem somewhat "dull" but there are no swirls or other imperfections

i was always under the impression that polishing was really done to eliminate swirls...is there a very light polish that i can apply by hand to make the Z give better effects...if not..ill just have to wait till we organize a little meet

but i promise when we do arrange somehting, ill let you take it for a spin..at your own risk though, cause its addicting

on a side note, out of curiousity..have u been modding ur g35 or have u controlled yourself (haha)

I did a similar moro metalic blue stage 3 1.8t. I think g35 is right about the polish giving you depth. I would give his recomendation a try and maybe add a carnuba topper.

Sean: Time to change your sig to your new ride :).

Typically, polishing is just for eliminating imperfections, but polishing with Menzerna FPII or Zaino ZPC would eliminate any dullness, leave a deep/wet finish, and prep it well for the Z5/Z2 Pro toppers.

I pulled up a couple quick dark blue cars finished with Menzerna and Zaino:

Sorry to hijack, but I think you get the picture.

Regarding my car, I have only clearbra'd the nose and hardwired my V1. I have a couple subtle changes planned, but nothing insane.

Anything on the front for the RS4?

In my eyes, the best my midnight blue metallic GTO has looked was with the full Clearkote lineup. I polished with OP first, then went to RMG, then YCW, them Carnauba Moose and finished it all off with a spritz of Quik Shine. It was awesome.

I will say that with the Souveran I have on it now, I'm in no hurry to change it up. It looks just amazing. I love this wax.

thanks for all the responses comments

blacksunshine: im sure your combo looks great and i appreciate the advice but i dont plan on having such a huge arsenal of products...i wanted to stick with zaino with perhaps one other addition

sean: nothing planned yet, i actually wanted to take my v1 out of my Z but its hardwired and i dont feel like pulling everything apart...guess its a good selling point...the only thing that im even entertaining now is using some smoked lamin-x tape that i have lying around to cover the front and rear reflectors

would love to black out the headlights and remove the amber too (there is a local guy that i know does it but ill think about it)

really dont plan to change anything but i guess that depends on the product offerings that may come

thanks again guys..especially the respect from teh m3 guy..i know how hard that is haha...but i love the m3 too...

Another M3 fan here. That car is gorgeous and I would love to have one. I agree with getting rid of the ambers and going with clear bulbs. Check out stealth bulbs. I have them on my 325 and I like the look. They still flash yellow, brighter than the ambers even, but they look dark grey when they aren't lit. I would also recommend polishing. Don't be afraid of the PC, I have used it twice now on friends cars, and it is pretty much idiot proof if you do your homework on this site as well as others like properautocare.com which has good tutorials.

Good Luck.

wow...just checked out stealth bulbs online..what a great idea...never even heard of them...im assuming they are just screw in...thanks for the idea john

do you have a pic of them installed?

just checked and they claim they dont have bulbs that fit 2007 audi's...gonna check my manual to see the correct size ..crossing my fingers

haha...already been surfing those sites..i was basically living at my350z.com before....i hate the layout of audiworld but its the most informative

Gorgeous Car, I too have nothing constructive to add.

I do have one gripe though.

Audi RS4 base MSRP is $66,000 USD

in Canada the base MSRP is $94,200 CDN

As of today, $66,000 USD = $72,850 CDN. Canadians have to pay $22,000 CDN ($20,000 USD) MORE for the same car

:wall :bat :hairpull

/rant

beautiful car though :D
