Well, Now We Are Moving

Found two potential houses now so things are looking better for me if I get offers on my house.

2nd house has a very small back yard. .less yard work.

But the driveway is about +5 degrees which converts around a 10% slope.
Is that a detailers nightmare?
It didn't look that bad until I drove my Grand Marquis on it.

That would be a no bueno for me. There is a little slope to mine near the garage, but not too bad.

They delivered our new washer this evening so I guess I need to repair the plumbing tomorrow. Went to Lowes and looked at their "scratch and dent" section and got a $579 Maytag for $279. It had been used a couple times and then repaired, but hey, it still comes with the factory warranty!

I eventually was needing to run some more power to the attic. Done some diggin around up there and then in the panel box. Looks like someone already did the dirty work and ran two lines up there, just need connected!

OMG, that driveway would be a no-go for me. Could you fill a bucket on that slope? Would it even stay on that slope or would it slide down. How about even getting the car door open. Once open it would not stay open either. You really can't park a car on it. When it snows how do you get up the drive? How about ice? Hell even if just wet, it would be dangerous. I find it unbelievable that they could even build something that steep under code. I would expect several cars would scrape their air dam getting up the driveway. When you get to the top you will likely scrape the middle of the car too. That just blows my mind.

Another thing to consider. If you owned that home and wanted to sell it down the road, that slope would turn off almost all buyers.

That doesn't look too terribly bad. Looks about like the houses I live in in Mississippi.


Today was some good progress. Got the washing machine hooked up. Not a pro plumber by any means, but now it actually drains. Snapped a before and after pic:

Don't have the dryer yet, but I have an indoor clothesline in the basement. They were already clean but I washed some of my microfibers to test everything out. Perfect.

Also got all the CATV and new receptacles installed. Owner didn't want holes drilled through the hardwood (I don't blade him either, they are perfect) so I installed them in a pop-in boxes with a receptacle on its own circuit in each room.

Had to buy a Kline flex drill bit set to get the job done, but it's all finished and we now have cable in every room. Need to add one in the other corner of my room for the air conditioner and a lamp, but that's tomorrows job.

I see the screw heads aligned on the receptacle cover vertical.
Ground up too.
That's how I put every receptacle in for years . ....until many of the devices you plug in force you to turn it around. I got tired of the wife complaining.

In a way, yes. Mostly use 3-phase, though. There are 120v circuits in the motor control panels, but mostly 3 phase controls. But I've been working on and restoring houses since I was 16. Along with keeping up to date on the latest NEC code book, you pick up a couple things over the years. I was trying to not let my OCD kick in on the panel box, it's kind of a mess, but workable. Went ahead and tightened down all the terminals while I was in there. The washing machine outlet by code needs a GFCI, so I need to correct that tomorrow.

Nizmo, my house sold in 3 days after listing.
And. ....I was able to sell fast enough to get a home just a week or so from completion.
Settlement is Jan 28th.
I just can't believe that neighbors can convince people to move....better than my wife ever could.
It wasn't really planned but I take pride in everything I own.
If people don't respect my personal property I have no choice but to move.

Congrats! Consider yourself very fortunate to sell so quickly in today's market! It took us 2 years at a loss to sell ours and almost 3 years and a loss to sell my grandmothers.


And since I'm a photo junkie, everything's all settled in at the garage! Was able to wash all three this weekend at the new place. Thank goodness for water pressure!

Almost had a fire the other night..

Tried the dishwasher for the first time and it didn't go as planned. It lost all power halfway though, traced the wire down to this plug for the washing machine. I bumped it a little bit and it came back to life... uh oh. Never backstab a plug, especially with a high load on it!
