Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later

Hail the power of Quattro
Tonight, on my way to the movies, I got in a little accident. Nothing too serious I guess. There waren't any dents on either vehicle, but some paint was rubbed off of my front bumper. I'm not sure if there was any paint rubbed off of her bumper or if it was just my paint on there. I immediately took responsibility since I hit her. We both looked at both vehicles and told her to call the police if she felt the need. I also told her that I detail vehicles and offered her a full detail at no cost to help take care of the issue at hand. Her vehicle was already pretty dirty with bird droppings scattered all over. She seemed content that neither her or her children were hurt and that there wasn't any major damage. She decided that we should just exchange numbers and not worry about calling the police even after I asked her if she was sure she didn't want to call them. She said that if worse comes to worse that she'd take me up on my offer to detail her car. The good thing is that since there wasn't a police report, she can't really file any legal actions against me. At least by hitting a VW, I kept it in the family..:)

Here is a picture of the damage to my car. The paint chip is just a little bigger than a dime. Yes, I know my car is a bit dirty, but it has been raining lately and I haven't had a good weekend that wasn't already filled up with other details to take care of mine. I gave it a quick wash today, but the rain quickly took care of any good I tried to do.

Hope it all turns out well for you, but most importantly glad you and the others involved are ok. Break out the touch up paint on that front bumper hehe.

I'd like to touch it up and wetsand it to reduce the visability of the fact that it has been damaged. I guess I'll be reading up on that process before I dive into it. And yes, the most important thing is that no one got injured, but it doesn't make me any less mad that I did that to my car.

Sorry to hear about the mishap.
Glad that nobody was injured.
The roads were pretty wet last night!

I had the same thing happen to me also with a VW . The lady wasn't worried about making a report and said she would call me later in the evening if their was any problems. i never heard from her again but i did hear from the insurance company almost a year later when they were about to settle her personel injury claim. same thing with my daughter after letting of the break at a stop light and tapping the car in front of her a few days later we got n estimate for $300 + to fix her bumper.

Morral of the Story make a report or take a photo of the car..

If there wasn't a report filed, how can she file a claim? It was my understanding that if they can't prove the accident happened, they can't file any suit.

In Illinois i beleive you have 72 hrs to file a report and only one of the party's has to be there to file.in my daughters case i had no choice but to pay cash because of the high deductable. I,m sorry my post wasn't meant to cause worry only o make people aware bad things can happen to good people.

I just recieved a call from the lady that I bumped to see if I was okay. I again apologized and asked if she and her children were okay and she confirmed they were all fine. She asked me if I could do an interior job. She said she has some stains and would like them corrected if possible. She asked me what I would charge her and she said that she wouldn't accept a free detail. I told her that I would be happy to do it for no charge. I asked her if she wanted me to do anything with the paint, and she said it was up to me and it didn't matter either way since her car has never been detailed. I think I'm going to just hit the interior really well and give it a wash and wax to try and make up for my mistake. It was kind of wierd because she was almost as apologetic as I was about the whole ordeal. Oh well. I can happily hand out a free detail instead of having my insurance raised.

I;m Happy you heard from her again and all is well.Real nice of you to offer your services,a win situation for all. Good luck on the detail..

It wasn't quite like that. She started to accellerate as did I and she stomped on the brakes. I pretty much stood on my brake pedal but couldn't stop soon enough. Oh well, live and learn.

No, I know. I was just teasing, mostly making fun of her good-naturedness. :howdy

I know, but I realized that I wasn't too specific with the details of the accident itself. I just wanted to add that for clarification. However, it was really wierd to hear her say it was just as much her fault as mine.

It sticks that you you had an accident, but it sounds like there isn't any "major" damage. The most important thing is that everyonee is OK.
It sounds like the lady is pretty cool about it, just wanting you to do the interior.
She's probably telling the kids not to worry about making a mess someone else is going to clean it this time

Glad to hear that everyone is OK

Yeah, I have a B6. It's a 2004 A4 3.0 Quattro with a 6spd. I have paint missing on the rear bumper too from someone getting a little too friendly with my car in a parking lot. They were nice enough to leave the scene without leaving me a note or anything. So, while I'm fixing the front, I might as well fix the back too. At least I'll get a good introduction to fixing minor things with touch up paint and wetsanding.
