Well, I got one!!!

You may remember my posts asking for car opinions (was that just yesterday?!?) ... well I could resist no longer and picked up an '02 Honda S2000!!!! I actually got it for UNDER MSRP!

I'm so excited I can hardly type. It's black with red leather interior. It wasn't a special order, so it sat on the lot a bit and was washed at least once, probably twice.

Before Autopia, I would have never even noticed the swirls - but they're certainly there. However, without Autopia, I would have no clue as to how to remove them... It looks as though I may be a new PC owner soon...

Just had to share!!!!

So, I've never had a car with leather. What are some suggested cleaners and protectants for perforated leather seats?

Thanks!

I use ProWax's Leather cleaner and leather lotion.

To apply stuff I wrap two towels around my carpet cleaning bush so that no bristles can poke through. I then apply the cleaner right to the towels on the brush and scrub.

For the leater lotion I apply a blob to a cotton terry applicator (one of those sponges wrapped with terry cloth). I then first dab it on an area that isn't perforated and then move on the perforated areas. If I do get blobs of lotion places that I should, then I just come back with a damp towel.

I prefer the smell factor of Z10 personally...... (Zaino - if you already use Z just go for the Z9/10 setup, it works excellently if you start out a brand new car's interior with it from the get-go..... Z10 works on all the leather/vinyl/hard colored plastic in the interior.....)

and always remember that the likelihood of Honda leather not being clear-coated is slim to none, so you could even try out some 303 or vinylex on the seats if you like (I don't like to do this as the smell is overwhelmingly "plastic-like", I prefer a "natural leather" smell..... this way it seems more like the genuine new car smell)

Congratulations!!!! Very sweet looking car with great performance!!:xyxthumbs

Welcome to the world of black cars. I would suggest a sealant rather than a wax to protect, especially to protect against swirls.

Both of my cars that are driven have leather interiors and I use mild soapy water if necessary ( rarely) and follow with Lexol leather conditioner 3-4 times a year and 303 protectant (my 303 tends not to smell.. I use very light applications) at least monthly.I think the S2000 has a fabric top. If so you might want to re-enforce the UV, water and dirt repellancy by coating with a fabric protectant.

Again CONGRATULATIONS! :bounce

Thanks for the replies everyone!

My plan (currently) is to use the Z2 and Z5 and ZFX - that I've already been using on my truck - on the exterior.

303 for the interior.

303 or Z10 or ??? on the seats (not sure yet).

303 fabrict protectant or ??? on the convertible top (hopefully I'll find something waterproof) any ideas?

Thanks!

Congratulations!

I owned a 1992 Honda Prelude Si for nine years and 128,000 miles. What a fantastic car!

I sold it to buy a higher end sports car, but it really made me sad to see it go. It was problem free, beautifully maintaied and detailed, and ready to go hundreds of thousands of miles more.

When I went shopping for another car, I immediatly thought of the S2000. But I was too large for it. It's a GREAT car though.

I'm sure you'll enjoy putting miles on it!

Yhea, the S2000 is a really nice car. I've never driven one though... Hmmm maybe it's time for a test drive :D

I was looking at one in the Home Depot parking lot the other day. A bright red one. Very sharp looking :up

I'm sure you'll enjoy that car.

Welcome to the club, autopia and s2ki. Actually I saw your post on the S2000 board.

I've gone with the Klasse/Souveran combo but I'm slowly considering going to Z for the slickness. Until I see a red one with Z, I'm not going to give up the Souveran look. Well at least not just yet.

I use 303 for the interior, first I wipe down using a microfiber and plain water and then follow with 303. The convertible top is vinyl, not fabric so 303 works fine there too.

Have fun at 9K! :xyxthumbs

Thanks for the correction about the top, scooby2 - it looked like fabric at first glance, they did a good job texturizing the vinyl. Do you use 303 on your seats as well? That's what I'm thinking of doing - I'm really paranoid about the leather, as this car will be outside 24/7. Also, I'll have to find something other than 303 for the top, as I've used 303 on exteriors before, and it streaked and ran horribly the first time it rained...

Thanks!:bounce

you know what would probably work well on the vinyl top is some Z16 (yes, I know its tire dressing, but it works wonders on other trim too, without streaking or running) :up

Congratulations! That's a hot car.

One thing you might need is a lint roller for the soft top. I'd comment more, but I'm too nervous from the Det/Carolina double OT game.

Looks like at lot of folks on this board use 303 for leather so I've pretty much followed along and have had no problems with that. I know what you mean about 303 for the top 'cause I live in Seattle and we sometimes get a bit of rain... I don't notice runoff or streaking but the top isn't as "black" as I'd like it to be. If you find something better to use, I'm all ears. I've thought about using Renovo from CMA. Anyone else have experience with it?

Hey Shiny, I checked out Z16, but Sal specifically states on the website not to use it on convertible tops...

Scooby2, when I used 303 on my Tundra, I had terrible streaks/runs down the vertical surfaces ... Maybe water drains off the S2000 top in such a way that it's routed through drainage channels and not just straight down the body panels - that would explain the lack of runs... If that's the case, I'd use it - I'm just afraid of nullifying my work with Z on the paint...

Back to detailing...
