Well I finally did it!

Congrat's! That's a WHOLE LOTTA ENGINE. The torque should make for some fun times, and if I'm right, 6th gear should be tall enough to get decent gas mileage on the freeway (for an engine its size at least).

Does it have Variable Valve Timing or whatever Dodge calls it? I know Camaros with auto transmissions have it but the manuals don't.

My Ram has it and while it helps with gas mileage I don't think want my Challenger to have it. I think it affects the sound of the exhaust too. Seems to drone a little more with it than without

Thanks sc_S13. No, it doesn't for 2012. However, rumor has it that it might be an option for next year's model (along with a possible 8-speed auto transmission). Not sure on what the extra cost would look like, though. There's also rumor that 2013 may be the last year for the Challenger - but that remains to be seen. The Barricuda may take its place.

I guess you are right, it looks like the Challenger will be scrapped by 2014. Supposedly a new, smaller, Barracuda will replace it. I think the biggest problem right now is that Chrysler is overpricing some of these cars.

I saw on TV where Chrysler was coming out with a Barracuda but didn't know the Challenger was being phased out. That's too bad they are a nice looking car.

Yeah, I think that Dodge calls it "cylinder deactivation" or something like that. (Or that may at least be the non-technical name for it...) It's actually not very noticeable, though, and all 8 cylinder's seem to fire at will. Too bad it doesn't affect gas mileage enough to eliminate the $1,000 "gas-guzzler" tax!

The mds system is what helps save gas. I've heard about the drone problems, as I plan on getting a catback system. I think I'm going with a corsa system to get the growl without the drone.
