Weekend Fun w/ Betty the Blazer...

Welp, I must say my younger brother is not cut from the same mold as me when it comes to his car. He could care less about having a clean car, and his '98 Blazer really shows it. My before pictures are a shade misleading, b/c the car was run through a swirl-omatic and believe it or not, they actually did a halfway decent job. Regardless, having rarely been washed and probably never waxed more than a couple times. Surprisingly, the only parts that really needed claying were the lower portions of the door panels, but dear lord did they need it. Anyways, after about 4 hrs of working on it (I only did exterior and engine) Betty really came out looking much better than I ever dreamed.

My finals:

Megs GC wash
Wolfgang Clay w/ Megs Quick Detailer for lube
SSR2.5 via PC w/ Edge Wave Yellow cutting pad (this is awesome, my first go round w/ the wave and this particular pad and I was exceptionally impressed w/ the results)
SSR1 via Edge Blue Finishing Pad (I also experimented w/ Pro Polish, both w/ this pad an the green cutting pad but didn't like the results... I always go back to SSR1 to finish up)
EX-P via Edge Blue again
Megs GC Rubber and Vinyl Trim on all the plastic and trim
CD2 on the engine and wells
ArmorAll Extreme Tire Shine on the tires (this literally is about 10 years old, and I dug it up and figured I'd get rid of it).

My apologies on the pics, most of the afters were done in my parents carport, as it was starting to rain a bit outside and I'm not the greatest photog. :)

Comments or what not... have at it. :)

Lookin good.

Did the SSR1 clean up the hazing caused by the SSR2.5 and yellow pad pretty well?

I'm getting ready to clean up a friend's blazer for her birthday and I've never done one. How was it compared to other vehicles you've worked on? Anything I should know?

You know this was the funny part... I really didn't have any hazing at all after the initial run through w/ SSR2.5 and the yellow pad, which really surprised me. I figured I would just use Pro Polish to finish it up, however it hazed up the half of the hood I put it on (I should have taken a side by side pic of it next to the SSR2.5 on the other side of the hood). A little puzzled by that, I just whipped out SSR1 and it finished the paint off perfectly. Really reinforced my love of SSR1 as a finisher with the blue edge pad.

As far as detailing a Blazer of that vintage... make sure you have painters tape out, b/c that sucker has a ton of plastic and rubber trim. Overall though, it was a pretty easy detail as everything was easily within reach...the only trouble spots were on the back liftgate around the rear window wiper setup. That's always a pain for me on an SUV. :D
