Well, I'm back at school now so all details will be on weekends. I have a bunch lined up for the next couple of months, but it won't be anything (volume wise) like the summer.
Anyways, I had a real tough one on my hands for the first detail.
1998 Volvo V70 Wagon
This belonged to my girlfriend's parents. They are the second owners and the first owners really beat the hell out of it. The front end is nothing short of SHOT! In reality, it needs a repaint, but I figured I'd try my best to fix it up for them.
I started off with the interior. I did my Oxy Mix on the carpets, Water:Woolite on everything else. 303 on rubber/plastic/vinyl and Lexol on the leather. Gliptone Glass Cleaner on the windows, wood trim, chrome door handles, and clear plastic.
Onto the exterior. This was the real beast, like I mentioned above. I started with a Mother's Gold Wash, Wolfgang Clay, Rain-X, then dryed with a WW. For the rims, tires, and wells I did TOL's Wheel Wash x 2 with the necessary brushes. They cleaned up almost everything, but there were some badly caked areas that had a little residue left over.
Next, I began wetsanding (2000 grit) some of the terribly touched up rock chips, and some deeper scratches. The whole car was very swirled, scratched, scuffed, and chipped. I played around with abrasives to remove the sanding marks, but in the end, DACP and Menzerna IP with a cutting pad @ 1500 rpm did the trick.
I followed up by doing IP with a cutting pad over the whole car. Have to say this stuff gave a noticeably deeper shine than DACP and cut probably, if not, better. I finished up with FP with a polishing pad @ 1500rpm and the shine blew me away. The black was soo deep it scared me. I ended up topping off with EX-P over the FP. I must say that EX-P has never gone on as thin as it did over FP.
I finished up the rest of the exterior with AA on tires and in wells and Gliptone Glass Cleaner on the windows.
Cliff Notes
-Mother's Gold Wash
-Wolfgang Clay
-Spot Wetsanding with 2000 grit papers
-IP with cutting pad @ 1500rpm
-FP with polishing pad @ 1500rpm
-EX-P by hand
-Rain-X to repel, Gliptone Glass Cleaner to clean windows
-AA on tires and in wells
-TOL's Wheel Wash to clean up rims
Before
After 2-step polishing
After EX-P
Sorry about the night shot. I will be back there soon to add another layer of EX-P and will get some daytime shots.
First cherry 2 door - My '96 Integra
Current Combo
-EX x 3
-Natty's x 3
I just S+W'd today, then topped with Natty's. Tires are still going strong with BnB from last weekend.
Last cherry 2 door - My girlfriend's '99 Snaab 9-3
Current Combo
-EX-P x 1
-CMW x 1
-Natty's x 1
Yesterday, she washed with NXT (as you can see :lol ), then topped with Natty's. She did a complete interior job (sorry no pics) with shampooing, doing the leather, dash, doors, windows, etc. Then on the exterior, 303 on all plastic, 4* leather conditioner topped with 303 on tires (yes I know interesting, she wanted to try it). Looks pretty good to me
Fun with washing
Enjoy!
