Weekend Detailing Plans

Get a junkyard panel and use my DeWalt to see at what point the clear coat is burned through.

Layer another coat of Klasse Glaze on my car.

Wash my fathers van, if I don't have a job lined up, I'm going to try to use the DeWalt on his van :scared

I just need to know the lowest setting I can use. :scared

lol allready thinking bout the weekend? true autopians! :xyxthumbs Think i;m jsut gonna do the usual wa the the family's rides. Might do a full detail (dawn was, clay zaino ect ect) on my bro's truck. It needs it.

Wash both cars, shop for a digital camera (kinda detailing related), and try out my new Griot's red wax pads I just got in the mail! woohoo! These suckers are huge. They are basically the same kind of pads you'd use on your velcro backed PC...except instead of attaching them to your PC, you just slip your hand in the elastic backed holder.

Gonna do a full exterior detail on my brother’s Maxima for his b-day. It’s about a year old and hasn’t seen the “good stuff yet so it should be fun. I just sold my old camera and got a Canon s330 digital Elph so it will be fun to document as well.

FYI: Make sure you clean inside the door where the gas filler is. The reason is that 5th Generation Maximas (mine included) are missing a splash guard that keeps the dirt from getting up there.

Not sure. The XJR and Subie both need washing -- bad! May try to get to that one evening between rainstorms.

I have been spring cleaning the XKR.

Two weeks ago I did the interior -- Leatherique, 303, shampoo mats, vacuum all carpets, headliner, etc.

Last weekend, I started the outside -- Valuguard A, clay, PPCL, AIO x 2, SG x 2, trunk (AIO on all the paint, Zymol seal on the gasket, dust and vacuum), rear wheels (EF HI, AIO x 2, SG x 2) plus the calipers, hubs and all the suspension and exhaust bits that you can see with the car on jack stands.

So, I can do the front wheels (and related bits), door jams, engine (doesn't need much just AIO on the paint, 303 on the plastic and rubber), one or two more coats of SG, a couple of coats of Souveran -- and done.

If I get all that done by Friday night, I might just show the car at the Jaguar Concours in Louisville on Saturday. But, I am not holding my breath. I have a really busy week at work and am likely to be there until midnight every night through Thursday.

Thanks for the tip! Will do :up

Monday after work, I picked up a PC from Lowe's, yesterday the UPS guy dropped off some Souveran, tomorrow my pads from CMA are scheduled to arrive and I already have the Meguiars #9 2.0 and Gold Class.

This weekend, I'm going to be using all this stuff on my garage queen 1988 Black 911. I currently have Zaino on it, but I'm thinking I can make it look even better with the above.

I'll be a busy guy all weekend.

Tony, I've got one of those too but with their orange pads. It's great on large panels but be careful around edges and trim as its a bit hard to control. But, yeah, they are comfy to use. I think you'll like it.

My plans?? Well, I'm not gonna wait for the weekend. The weather here in ATL is fantastic (cool, clear, low humidity) so its perfect for detailing. If my buddies can't make tomorrow's golf game happen then its time to bust out the PC and FI2 and SMR for some serious swirl removal. This time I'll remember to tape off the trim:doh

I need to remove the wheels for a full cleaning so I'll do that. When all is done, it's time for some Z. Prolly Z5/ZFX for a few coats and Z2/ZFX for a few coats.

If time permits then I'll do the interior but if not, I'll do it the next day.

Then its on the road to Charlotte for The Winston. A perfect test to see how well Zaino protects against bugs and road grime. I only hope the weather is better this year than last. NASCAR fans will recall the intermittent rain that plagued last years Winston. I love Charlotte Motor Speedway but I didn't want to sit in the rain all bloody night!!

Hell, if the weather looks good I'll bring some goodies and work on my bro's GTI.

No 'big' plan. My car is too clean from last week's 8 hour PC detailing so I didn't want to drive it. Still sitting in the garage nice and clean. :D Maybe I'll call up some of my relatives or friends and offer free detailings and get more practice with PC. :)

Ali, I read a lot of information about the 5th generation Maximas before I bought my 2002.

SJ, let your friend know about the TSB for that. All the dealer has to do is install the splash guard.

a) What kind of tape are you using? Masking tape?

b) I can't wait until the first weekend in June for the Route 66 Nationals. Can you say 7000 hp and 330 mph 1/4 mile? :shocked

Yeah, just some cheap masking tape, the stuff that doesn't stick too well. The plastic trim is a nightmare to get polish out of.

I know you'll have fun at the drag races. My buddy who went with me to the Southern Nat'ls here in ATL will be in Chicago for Route 66, the dog. If you hear some guy booing Gary Densham, that's him.

....and if he hears someone cheering for Warren Johnson, Tony Schumacher (gotta give props to him since he is from Chicago), Kenny Bernstein, Cory Mac, Del Worsham, Whit Bazemore, or Antron Brown, that would be me.

I went to the drags in '98 and '99 and loved it to death. I had pit passes and got to walk around the pits as well as shake hands with some of the drivers (e.g. Schumacher). The funny thing is that they were walking out of there with parts. I almost got a valve from one of the funny cars that ran. Another person was walking out with drag slicks.

How'd the Max turn out?

Got rained out today. Weird time for rain here and it’s iffy for the next few days. Hopefully be able to squeeze it in this week. Got a new digicam so I’ll be sure and post up whenever it gets done.
