I chose the 4* UPP because it has been a tried true friend while never letting me down on shine and beading.

Natty's red.
This car hadn;t been waxed since October. All I did was wash it with PB slick suds + wax.

Well, the vehicle's here and I hope to start on it this afternoon. It's pretty dirty, but it's really not in bad shape at all. Little washing and waxing leads to minimal marring I suppose. I should have a better estimate once I get it washed & clayed, but the paint does not look bad at all. The leather is pretty dirty though....

Here are some befores. I will try to remember to post up some "during" pics.

It looks like you have something to sink your detailing teeth into for a week, eh?

I guess you have not decided on which LSP you are going to use at this time, eh?

Not as of yet, although I am leaning towards the Collinite or the Zaino. I was hoping tossing a sample bone out there would have elicited more responses. :D Just for fun...

I voted for Z-5, but any of the Collinite's would do well also. I think on a vehicle like this, where it probably won't see much care, the more durable the LSP is the better.

Just curious, what makes someone neglect a car/truck for years and then decide on a full blown detail?

Friends of my wife. I guess our clean cars sort of advertised. FWIW, after a clay and wash, it's really not in bad shape. There's door dings and light scratches with a few chips, but overall it's not bad. At least it doesn't look like a giant spiderweb. :)

Well, here it is about decision time. :D I have some final polishing left to do on this thing, then a wash. I am leaning towards the Collinite, but am still undecided as what I will end up using. I am hoping to put the LSP on maybe Thursday. I still have some "prettying up" I need to do - dress the wheel wells & undercarriage, CD@ the engine bay, etc. - but I believe the "hard stuff" is done. I have a few pictures I ill try and post up showing the marr removal.

As an aside, I am not overly impressed with the paint. For the life of me, it looks great under the halogen lamps (probably 90-95% marr free with the exception door dings and chips) but in the garage the paint just looks lifeless. It is metallic, but it is sp mute looking it is hard to tell unless it's under the halogens. I am hoping it will really shine in the sun. Maybe I am expecting too much?

Well, here are some "during the process" pics. All polished (95% marr removal) albeit very dusty and polleny. I will be washing and applying the LSP tomorrow. I am thinking Collinite.... anyone else wanna vote and persuade me otherwise?? :D I still gotta do some finishing touch things as well. A lot closer than I was. :) And I have really enjoyed it. I hope the "customer" is happy with the finished product.

I have to agree that the paint looks a little lifeless. I am at a loss as to what to suggest. Hmmm... kind of unlike me eh?

OK, I do have a suggestion. Because the paint is a little dull I have changed my suggestion to NXT 2.0 to darken the paint and possibly give it some life. Other than that I guess that you have it handled.

Yeah, I am at a loss as to what is up with this paint. It's got orange peel, but not too awfully bad. I've spent a lot of time on it, and for the return/investment ratio this one is probably one of the most disappointing I have ever done. I am just hoping the owner thinks more of it than I do. I mean, my silver 4 Runner has more depth than this, and it's glossier too. It really beats me as to why it's looking the way it is. Makes me think I didn't do something right.

Just conjecture, but could this be an example of what happens to paint when it is completely neglected?
I remember Anthony Orosco making a comment about the life of the UV protection in a clearcoat being limited. Maybe the clearcoat UV protection has been depleted and the base coat has started to lose its life. :dunno:

I do know from experience that Honda red can go dead if it is neglected. I brought back a 1995 red Prelude that would only look good for a short time. The paint itself didn't retain any shine or depth.

Well, first let me say thanks to all who helped in my little poll. I had a good time seeing all the different responses and a nice time getting my detailing spirits up. I chose to use Collinite 845 as the LSP, so if you were one of the eleven folks who chose Collinite let me know. I'll put the names in a hat (or some random name picking generator) and get a "winner." We can discuss a couple of sample items I can send, and if you win and don't need anything I'll donate to a new or needy DC member.

Here are some final pics. LSP was three applications of 845. I was not 100% satisfied with the final look of the vehicle, but I think some of that was beyond my power. I think it looks very good, and I am hoping the owner is surprised and pleased when she opens her garage door upon returning from vacation.
