Wedding rings

I smell a faint aroma of non-insured jewelery? :fear: A good friend of mine actually lost his diamond encrusted Presidential while deep sea fishing when he let out a long cast. Actually pretty common for the pins on those models to wear. I take my YachtMaster to the beach all the time. I make sure to give it a good rinse and blow it out with compressed air afterwards.

Nope, he was able to get it replaced. Would still be nice for the original to wash ashore one day though :) Yeah, the solid 18K Day-Dates aren't the most durable for heavy activity because 18K is soft. Is your Yacht Master all stainless? All stainless is much better for any sea-related activity.

Stainless and Platinum actually. They rate to something like 300 feet I think.

And yeah, those gold D/D's are soft.....and gaudy. :puke:

Ah! The platinum bezel and dial, right? Probably the most gorgeous model in the entire line up! Wear it well.

:sad:Last year my wife was stepping on the tub cleaning the outside of the shower dor. She stepped off the tub and hooked her ring on the top of the shower. She nearly pulled off her finger dislocated it and tore up all the skin to the knuckle to the point the doctor had to cut her ring off. Close call

The point is maybe people should take the ring off for safety reasons.

I dont wear mine much at all either, I do have that :ballchain: to drag around though. :faint2:

My wife is a god send. :pray1:

I have a belt that does not show any metal.

Initially I thought this was going to be " does anyone detail their wedding rings". Not intended to hijack, but I was curious if anyone else shines them up with a mild polish? BTW I don't wear mine when I do any projects around the house.

Sure you could them shine them with typical metal polishes we use in detailing or with jeweler's rough on a buffing wheel/ or Dremel and felt wheel. Cape Cod cloths rock for jewelry in general too.

I actually prefer a "sure not new!"-type look; my plat wedding band and SS Sub have that been-and-done look (to express it positively :o ).

Classic SS Subs like the 1680 range with nice patina are all the rage and in high demand. The been-there-done-that look is actually the perfect look for them :)

Bill D- Mine might push the definition of "patina" just a little bit ;) But then...what's that lyric?..."scars are souvenirs you never lose".

Gee, I don't know from Rolex nomenclature...what's the "1680 range"? Mine's circa 1977-78.

not married but if I found a woman worth marrying then I would not mind keeping the ring somewhere on me at all times.

I'll drink to that. :tea: Guess we're just sentimental kinda guys

I have a small shot glass in the bathroom where I place my ring before I shower in the morning. On days that I detail I just leave it in the glass and put in back on when I get home. My wife only gives me a hard time when I forget to put it back on after a few days. ;)

The 1680 was first introduced in 66. 200 meters rated sub with the crystal that stood about 3mm above the bezel. The"red" with writing in red, is particuarlly collectable these days.

rdorman- Thanks for schooling me (Bill D and I have been talking Rolexes too, via PM). Yeah, that must be what mine is. Valuable or not, I'm glad mine doesn't have the red lettering (stodgy old me).

bigfish528 & Bill D- Yeah, I can see having it on me as opposed to wearing it on the finger. These days, having a ring on my finger simply bugs me when I'm doing certain things, including things where [messing] up isn't a viable option.

I might be a little skewed regarding wedding bands anyhow as my father never wore his and my mother was alwaying taking hers off when doing certain things (like Accumulatorette's, hers wasn't a simple band; these aren't the type of rings you wear when doing chores :grinno: ). So just grew up thinking that wearing a wedding ring (or not) was no big deal. I actually wore mine all the time until I found it was compromising my performance at certain tasks.

Accumulator- My father never wears his either. His was actually his father's and so it's a family heirloom. He used to wear it all the time when he was younger and used to have a ring guard on it,then his finger got fatter, and the ring, being decades old, got more uncomfortable for him. Resizing a multiple-engraved item like it isn't an option. My mother has two rings, actually-- one for everyday, and the elaborate one for when all the chores are done.
