Weatherstrip

Another vote for Einzett Gummi Pfledge, it works great.

The absolute best weatherstrip treatment is BMW Gummi Pfledge but they discontinued it a few years ago, probably because it didnt meet the new VOC standards or somethng. If you can still find these tubes, buy them.
If not, the einzett product Barry mentioned is a great product too.

I know about dielectric grease, have used it in electronic applications where it works great and some automotive applications where it works great, but dont know what its made of. If it has alot of things that attack rubber, I wouldnt use it ever on moldings. I am curious to know why GM recommends it..

GM isn't the only company to recommend the use of silicone grease on weatherstripping. Honda, e.g., recommends Shin Etsu silicone grease.

My understanding is that these silicone greases, unlike petroleum-based products, are perfectly safe to use on EPDM seals and weatherstripping. They are recommended to reduce noise and prevent sticking.

Thanks I may also order 1Z Einsett Gummi Pflege as recommended in addition to the Wurth and do a comparison.
 
I remember first grabbing 1Z Gummi Pfledge a couple of years ago and being impressed with the performance but more so the application. That said I am also going to be trying out the Wurth. I look forward to your review!

To answer your question, I have never tried the grease, and while I am sure it would work well, it seems it would leave smear marks on any painted surface it touches. Also, GM (Cadillac) recommends woolite for leather care, and after talking to the folks at woolite (who said this was a terrible idea and they never would recommend it) and leather care experts who found chemicals in the woolite MSDS sheets that could cause damage to leather coating, I would take GM's recommendations with a grain of salt.
 
Okay, I just ordered the 1Z Einsett Gummi Pflege for my weatherstrip in addition to the Wurth Rubber Care. I will do a comparison covering ease of application and apparent effectiveness. Any other suggestions?

Well, I received the Wurth Rubber Care along with the Einsett Gummi Pfledge and like a dummy I didn't realize Einsett Gummi Pfledge was in the same shipment. I accidentally threw it away with the shipping peanuts. I did, however, use the Wurth and although it went on very nicely, I am doubtful of the ingredients. It contains Isopropyl Alcohol and I'm not sure if this ingredient will actually dry out the rubber weatehr stripping? Any thoughts?
