waxing too often?

Newbie to Autopia. Can any harm be done to paint waxing too often? I wash my car every week and follow with two coats of NTX after every washing. Car seems to look pretty nice, but I don't want any problems down the road.

The only probelm I could see is from build-up. As long as you strip it down every so often should be okay.

:welcome to Autopia tom5781!

Don M's right, the NXT wax won't hurt your car if applied often and correctly. Most people get into trouble by using poor applicators, poor towels for removal and sloppy technique. Just use the good stuff along with that NXT and you'll be fine.

Not that I would ever want to talk anybody out of waxing often but NXT does last a while. There's no hard and fast rule to how long but weekly probably isn't buying you added protection. It sure does look great though and that can be more than reason enough.

If you find that you start getting pressed for time you might try using NXT spray wax routinely and the liquid (or paste) every few weeks.

PC.

The car is garaged when not being driven.Plenty of protection. Just seems to look better with the second coat.

If it is a cleaner wax, then actually you are just doing an extra measure of cleaning and maintenance. All cleaner waxes and waxes must be clearcoat safe and non abrasive in order to gain the best use of it on your cc paint.

A pure wax will layer, but putting on too much at one time (3 or more at a single time) will be harder to control over the paint, and will not necessarily last longer than wax that has cured over time. The best way to wax is to put one coat on per session (more so if its on a weekly basis, but even if its a few weeks in between) and build your wax residue over a period of 6 or up to 9 months. As long as you take care to make sure that the paint surface is clean and free from contaminants, then you can put wax on as much as you see fit.

However, it is not the best thing to just keep piling it on for more than a year. You will find that without properly cleaning and polish prepping the paint, that excessive waxings will produce haze and a less clear resolution, in addition to the probability of gaining more swirling.

Moderation is always the key in terms of detailing. My last word as a dedicated waxaholic: A properly accumulated (Pure Carnauba) waxed surface that's free from haze and swirls is a sight to behold!!!

True, until you get lazy one day and run your car through the touchless car wash at the gas station. :hairpull

The pre-rinse soap they use must be pretty strong to streak a nice carnauba build up. Still beading because I had so many layers. Lesson learned.

My recommendation would be to wax every month or two...

And follow up your car washes with your fav QD. Your car will maintain that just-waxed look and the slickness you like, and it just takes 10 minutes to QD after a wash.

2x NXT Let cure overnight

2x #26

Should last a good 3 months assuming you clean the car and don't scrape away the layers with dirty wash rags. The above looks awesome! If you think NXT is saweet wait until you put some #26 on top :) (Or Nattys blue)

every week would equate to 52 layers of NXT-shouldn't have to worry about bird bombs :LOLOL

If that were true, my car would have bounced off the guardrail last winter instead of ending up like this:

No, for that, you would need the navigation force shield.

(If some insurgents are shooting at you, you would need a full-blown force shield.)
