Waxing Brand New Car

I'm taking delivery of a brand-new black Lexus on Monday, and am planning on waxing it right away. Unfortunately, it won't be garage parked for at least 2-6 months, and will be subjected to the elements. I'm intending to use the 3M/Blitz combination or the Zaino series of products to protect the paint.

However, I remember once upon a time I was told not to wax/polymer seal the car for the first 90 days after manufacture. So should I wait out that 90 days, or is it better for me to wax/protect the paint right away? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Are you sure your car was manufactured in October of '02? Its possible that your car is already 90 days old. check the VIN sticker in the door. It will tell you the month and year it came off the line. lynxowner is right though. You shouldn't really have to wait. Once you get it you can wax it.

Wax it immediately...and make sure the dealer doesn't! The factory bakes the paint at high temperatures since the wheels, battery, hoses, etc are not on the car at the time of the paint job, so it is fully cured by the time it leaves the factory.

Thanks for the replies! I just found out that our landlord has an extra garage spot, and so my car will not be sitting outside. I know this must be a stupid newbie question, but what wax these days gives the best depth of shine? I hear Zaino lasts the longest, but I've been hearing substantial controversy with regard to depth/clarity of shine. Any suggestions? Thanks again for all the help!

The "best" is rather relative. What works for you may not for the others and vice versa. Try out products, just be sure it doesn't burn a hole in your pocket;), and decide what best works for you. :xyxthumbs
