Waxing a Ferrari

Has anyone wax a new Ferrari lately?

I have one to do this weekend, a 2000 Red Ferrari 360.

Its has never been done yet but it is spotless.

I am thinking maybe claying (maybe) and than #7 Glaze by hand and follow it up with some pure carnauba. Any other ideas. I have Meguiar's products.

I know its just a another car. But its a $160,000.00 car!!!!

I know what your saying about the price of the car. It's got to be nice to detail something so expensive. Just think of the trust that is put into you to detail it, now that's pretty rewarding by itself.

I would clay, use 3M SMR on specific spots IF you need it, if not then go straight to the wax and get 2-3 layers on through the day. I would give each layer around 2-3 hours to dry.

Never used the stuff, I heard it goes on and comes off really easily. Must be nice, it would be even nicer if some *cough* sent me a free sample *cough* :)

Do a search for Jason. He is/was in England and had the nicest ferarri. Search for his threads I bet there were some where he stated what he used. I think there is a pic in the picture section of his car but the thread will be pretty old.

If the car has NEVER been done before, then you'll definitely need to give it a good claying. Also, I would use something with a bit more cleaning ability than meguiar's #7. Maybe a good mild paint cleanser/polish like PPCL or P21S Paintwork Cleanser and then top it with carnauba wax.

RichardP is the man you need to speak to. Try sending PM or email. From memory he was about to move to the USA but it is worth a try

hello green monster. i take care of the Ferrari Club of New Orleans and also did others at a concours event last october. i do a red 360 at least once/month. that's true, treat it like any other car. the interior is a pain. it's not alot to do, but the glass is a pain to get to, back in the engine bay too. i generally use blitz, but have tried other waxes as well. clay it only if it really needs it, otherwise go straight to your choice of polish and wax. i've been wanting to justify souveran, but can't bring myself to doing it. besides, the blitz will last longer. good luck to you - if you do it really well the owner will probably recommend you to the rest of the Ferrari owners if he's in the local club. those people tend to be tight lipped and travel in a small circle. make one a regular customer and others will follow. the only Ferrari that worries me is the F50 that i do sometimes, always use blitz on it 'cuz i'm not sure i could use any abrasive or polish on it - it's entirely carbon fiber. different than your normal car and totally awesome!:D

sonnydaze is right-treat it like any other car. I detail a Ferrari 348 Spider very regularly and I used to detail his 348 and also a 328 +4 for another guy (all red, of course).

Only clay if needed-why add an extra, unecessary step if the finish is in good shape? Hand Polish (the Body Shop version of #7) would be a good base to work from then wax with #26, then top with Pinnacle Souveran or Paste Glaz. I've used Paste Glaz on top of #26 with great success and neither one dries white or leaves residue.

If you top with a premium wax like Pinnacle or P21S, make sure you charge extra for the higher cost wax-they paid $160,000 for a car and believe me, they won't mind paying more for the quality of a high end wax. I have a customer who I made aware that I have some Pinnacle Souveran coming in and he told me to call him when I got it so I could put it on his BMW Z8.

BTW, you think a Ferrari 360 is intimidating? Try a Bentley Continental SC-more than twice the price!

Search for posts by Jason Fraser, you might find better results.

I did a search and came up with nothing, I do remember Jason saying he used the Klasse twins and Pinnacle Souveran on the paint.

I did a Ferrari once but it was just a kit car. It sure looked like a Ferrari. If I got to do a real one my drool would probably mess up the job. That has always been my Unicorn car. I'd love to do a real one.

Are you implying sonnydaze and I gave lukewarm information?

;)

Either Klasse or Meguiars Body Shop Pro stuff to prep the paint and Souveran as a topper should yeild outstanding results, although a Klasse base would be more durable.

No scottwax and sonnydaze. I was not implying about the lukewarm information. I tried looking for the pictures of Jason's Ferrari but I could not find it, so I tried to look for posts using his full name, you might find better results than I did before. I only came up with 10 threads that contained anything related to Jason. I wonder where did he go, I haven't seen him lately......

I was just messing with you Jason-if I wasn't, I would have used the mad smiley flipping the bird (not from this site), but since I knew you were not ripping us, I added the ;) along with the 'slap' smiley!

Carguy also did a great write-up about de-swirling his friend's black 360. If you do a search for ferarri & carguy, I'm sure it will pop-up.
