Wax vs Sealant = Confusion!

WARNING, AUTOPIAN HERESY FOLLOWS-

Plenty of times I just slap on a fresh coat of LSP without doing any kind of proper prep other than a good wash. No clay, no decon, nothing. Even do that over old/different LSP if I`m not concerned with bonding issues. Guess that last part can be key though...

Yeah, I know, and YMMV in a huge way. But I do it pretty often.

Hey, it`s Winter and Reecard`s in MI (see, I even checked, I`m paying attention :D ) and I`d rather the vehicle have protection on it. Make this stuff Autopian enough and people might not end up doing anything. I`d give serious consideration to just doing whatever`s realistically feasible for right now and then giving it a more proper detail come Spring.

Bingo...can only do what conditions allow. Winter sucks.

or substitute Collinite 845 for FK1000P. For my cars, the last wash of the `warm` months is a wash and a coat of 845. No polishing, claying, etc. Lasts all winter. Come spring I`ll assess the condition of the paint and prep as necessary.

nice what color is your sq5? I got mine ibis white with black and red interior with the CF inserts.
If you dont plan on washing it every weekend to bi weekly you`re better off coating it. sealant will last about 6 months with proper maintenance.
If its a daily driver i would recommend coating over sealant and if coating is too difficult i would do sealant instead wax.

My SQ5 is Dayton Grey Pearl. Yes, I plan on washing it every weekend, when it is not winter! And yes, it is a daily driver.

I`m a broken record on this, but for the umpteenth time, don`t put too much stock in whether a product is called a "wax" or a "sealant".

FK1000P is called a "High Temp Wax" but it kills most sealants when it comes to durability and protection. Ditto for the various Collinites, which are almost comparable to the FK (and one guy here actually had Collinite outlast the FK, which was completely opposite my experience). The sealant I use on the S8 needs redone so often it might as well be a beauty wax by comparison...well, almost. And some sealants like KSG need lots of layers to be durable.
