Wax vs Polish

1. What is the difference between using a polish on a car vs using a wax. I see some detailing companies around my house offering a package with polishing your and then a package with just waxing your car. And the package with polishing does not include a wax, it is a 2 step process.

2. I noticed that in Autopia-Car Cares perfect shine and How to polish your car, it says to clean car with paint cleaner than use sealent and then you can put wax right on top of it. It doesnt say that you have to wait any time between sealing and waxing. Is that true, I can use Klasse AIO, then SG, then S100 in right in order or do I have to wait a certain time between SG and S100.

Thanks

1. There's no way to know for sure what the detailers are offering in those packages without discussing it with them. However, generally speaking, a polish is some form of abrasive cleaner that will remove/reduce paint defects such as swirl marks. A wax or synthetic sealant is a protective layer that is applied to the paint after it is polished. Given that the "polish" package doesn't include a wax step, I'm inclined to think that they're using the word polish fairly liberally and are still putting some kind of protectant on the surface as a last step product. In order to know for sure, though, you'd need to talk to them to find out what they are using.

2. I've never used SG, so I'll let someone else chime in. I *thought* you were supposed to wait 24 hours before topping to ensure full cure, but I'm not 100% sure.

I called one of the detailing places and they are putting a sealent on top of the polish, so what would the difference be between the sealent and wax.

Thanks

The wax is the sacraficial lamb so to speak, lasts about 6-8 weeks. The sealant under is still proctecting the paint. Sealants usually last about 4-6 months. You really do not have to put wax on after a sealant, but to get a different look (warmer, deeper, wetter) most do. Claying, polishing, and cleaning all prep the paint for the sealing/waxing. Hope this helps.

What's some sealants which can topped on polish like VM or Meg's #9 or #83??

Then, I also want to top it with some CMW.

Any sealant will allow me to do the above task?

I've heard 12-24 hours waiting time or more if you want to before waxing.

VM - EX or EX-P

VM topped with CMW is also a nice combo

PwC by itself or topped with EX is nice as well

So Ex or Ex-P is a sealent? Can it top VM, then, EX-P then top it with CMW??
