Wax Topping

Hey paul e,

I can relate to what you feel! One time I've been very much active in this forum, and for some time got acquainted with a new hobby. After almost a year and half, i've been checking this forum for some new products just to update myself. And like you, I still care for my car.

Anyway, in order not to be off-topic, here's my take on this one. If they're both LSP's, I believe anyone of them may top each other without anyone of them chemically removing the other. That's how general I view it now compared to some two years ago where I meticulously experiment with popular LSPs.

Paul e, I totally agree that you have plenty of products and that they will work fine just as they did 2 years ago. I'll also restate what some others have, is that OCW isn't some super wax that lasts any longer than any of your other LSP's, I would consider its durability to be simply average.

As far as yours and other's observations...I've been here since '04 and we were having the NXT and the Zaino wars then, so I don't perceive anything much differently now vs. then. 3M reformulated some of their polishes, and being perhaps more of a body shop/dealer product isn't pushed through the online boutique channels that have become so popular around here. I would disagree that Meguiar's has changed its station here in your absence. Pb's is not the buzz due to a scandal about its lineage and the perception that similar products can be had elsewhere at better prices. XMT wasn't around, and you're right, Menzerna has taken off but I think moreso with the pros and weekend warriors rather than the hobbyists.

The only thing that has really changed, other than that the Optimum polishes and some others introduced some highly lubricated formulas which allowed long work times with minimal dusting and trim staining, is the WOWA (wipe on, walk away) sealants (Zaino Clear Seal, Optimum Opti-Seal, and Ultima Paint Guard Plus), which are clearly (ha ha) a different animal. I don't know that they are a "must have" since it sounds like you have a fine collection of LSP's.

You can just use one layer of OCW to start, and when the beading starts to drop off spray some OCW onto your car wet, after you wash but before you dry. In this manner refreshing the OCW only costs you a few seconds of time, so durability really doesn't matter anymore. I just topped two month old Collinite this way. I park under trees, so I don't get the life out of a wax job that a garaged car does (like my wife's car).

When I have a product I'm sure I won't use anymore, I'll give it away at our annual garage sale. Detailing products alwayg go quickly.
