Wax topper on Klasse SG?

Hi Folks,

I’ve been reading the forum for a few months now (recently joined) and have learned a great deal, which I will put to good use in caring for my car - a 2006 Honda Civic, silver.

I recently ordered the Klasse twins and my planned process is to: wash, clay, AIO, SG (2 may be 3 coats), and lastly topped with a carnauba wax.

I’ve read that some folks keep layering the SG as maintenance between full details to enhance its durability, but I’m assuming that you can do that only if you don’t have a wax topper. Would that be correct?

Since the wax topper is mainly to enhance the shine/look and offers less protection than the SG, and if my goal is to maximize protection, would it be better to forego the wax so that I can keep adding SG instead?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Correct. You don't want to put SG on top of wax.

See how you like the look without wax. You may decide you don't need wax.

Welcome to Autopia!

I'm probably one of the people you've read about who keeps layering.

IMO the slight appearance improvement (this was on silver) from topping the KSG wasn't worth sacrificing the ability to layer on more.

You're correct, once you top with wax you can't add more KSG.

And yeah, the KSG will maximize protection over wax, though some waxes (e.g., Collinite) aren't exactly slouches. They still won't compare with the KSG though.

Do both :)

SG every 2 or 3 months, and wax topper monthly would be your best bet.

Or more often if you have spare time

This is similar to what I'm doing on a new white Subaru Forester. I have this process on the car:

wash

clay

AIO

SG-2 coats

Aquawax-2 coats so far- will do more when beading diminishes

Then, in the fall, I'll repeat the whole process, and maintain with AW over the winter as weather allows. Might do 3 coats of SG for winter.

^Thats exactly what I have planned too. Any pictures of your results?
