wax test

okay everyone. sorry ive let this thread go so long without an update.. been a little over 2 months.. i lost my old digital camera. i ordered a new one the other day, and should have it by tuesday, so expect pictures tuesday or wednesday.. okay. i wrote notes on paper because i didnt have my camera to take pics so ill writh them now, and post pics in a couple days, then ill continue the test on from there with pics every couple weeks. mothers pure carnuba was the first to fail. then mothers FX synwax, which came as a big suprize to me. #26 was the next to go flat. followed by poorboys and KAIO. tech wax 2.0 held up pretty well, just stopped beading about a week or 2 ago, along with the klasse. aio, sg, and aio topped with sg... i guess this is why people reccomend so many coats of the stuff. i washed the car today, and the 476 wasnt beading... pretty much all thats left beading is the 3m performance finish, liquid glass, collinite 845 (which is getting a pretty weak), duragloss 111, and as a big suprize to me, surf city garage where i put the nano seal, and nano glaze is still going... the place where i just put the sealant, and jsut glaze failed pretty quickly. the sprays, i intend to redo because they were all going so well, then i left it go for a few weeks, and they were all gone... again, sorry for starting another thread about this and not updating it..im pretty frustrated for letting so much of this test go by without posting pics for everyone... pictures WILL be posted soon.

Even though it may not look like it, I know quite a few lurkers (myself included) enjoy seeing comparisons like this. It helps me figure out what might give the best value for the effort involved, and protection for all the hard work put into getting the finish to the waxing stage.

If that bumper is supposed to be black, it's crying out for some sort of trim restorer comparison!

the front and rear bumpers are both that horrible faded grey rubbery plastic stuff, and yes they are supposed to be dark grey if not black.... my sister calls them indestructabumpers.. i have a few dressings i could try. lemme go chek n c what i got for ya... i have: megs #40-- original armorall-- mothers back to black--stoners trim shine--original version of TW ice (please dont bann me!! lol)-- and pinnacle vinyl and rubber protectant.

i leave for a vacation to california on august 9th, and its for 2 weeks.. i get back the 23rd.. the day before i start school. should b home by about 1am haha... i figure if i start it now, most will last until i leave, but most would be gone by the time i get back from my trip.. opinions? should i start it this week? or just wait until i get back ?

Clean them up first with some 0000 Steel wool and white vinegar. Works great on old black plastic bumpers. And it lasts :)

i only did one coat, everything in the test god one coat. the klasse section was broken into 3 spaces, one for just aio, one for just sg, and one with a coat of aio, then SG... theyre all gone. im pretty suprized myself. but i guess thats y everyone always says put several coats of it on if you're gna take the time to use it.

I recently got some Krylon Fusion spray paint, which is made for plastic, and after spraying my fender flares they look brand new. You might want to look into that if you want a permanent solution instead of something that will run and disappear when it rains.

Yea I layered 3 coats and it beads soo tight. The reason why they recommend layering is because KSG is very finicky. You would need to apply many layers at least 3 to get full benefit. So it could be evenly spread.

With appropriate cure time of course

Hey neighbor, i live in the Binghamton, NY area and am originally from Forest City, PA.

no. my sister goes to school up in ESU. thats the family beater car that she drive around when shes home. i live and go to college for automotive technology in delaware.

and GS4-feind. i only did one coat because it wouldnt be fair to give everything else one coat and ksg 3 coats... and i wasnt about to do 3 coats of everything, although mabye in the future ill do a test like this with klasse in one coat,2coats,3, etc. idk. porbably not ha

i will be doing another test when this is over, i have a couple new products i wana to see how they hold up. mainly surf city's great barrier reef, and s100. but thats getting a little far ahead of myself.. this test isnt even over. itll be over when theres one product left beading.

jDizzle,

Thanks for taking the time and product to do this test for us all. I for one appreciate your hard work.

That being said, I hope you can continue to do more tests :P

thanks, thats nice to hear.. and i plan on doing more tests in the future, i enjoy doing them, and like knowing what really performs, and what is just hype... the trim test will happen, im open to other suggestions as well by the way.

other than in the summer, and when my sister visits from college. this car pretty much just sits.. it does get run every week or 2 just to keep it running, but other than that, it sits, and for this test, gets washed about once a week.. although i have gotten lazy a few times...\

im anxiously waiting for my new camera to arrive, and to update this with pictures... a lot has happened as i said before since i last took pictures.

im not starting a new test yet, this ones still going, but i dont have any wolfgang 3.0, so probably not. by the way. my camera arrived, so expect a new update with pictures sometime within the next 24 hours!!

got sum new pics :-) enjoy

^^^ you can easily see that the 3m performance finish is doing much better than all the other waxes on the hood.

second20panasonic20upload20wax20-1.jpg

^^^^liquid glass is pretty much the only thing left on the hood other that the 3m that is still going

second20panasonic20upload20wax20-2.jpg

^^^ 845 is going still, so is the 1/3 of sufr city that got both the sealant and glaze. and duragloss 111 is doing the best on the roof

second20panasonic20upload20wax20-4.jpg

^^^shot of roof from opposite of picture above. i think poorboys is the only one thats 100% gone. klasse and 476 are barley beading, but i guess they're still going until theyre flattt

second20panasonic20upload20wax20-5.jpg

^^^the whole trunp looks like that. i intend to redo the sprays sometime.

second20panasonic20upload20wax20-6.jpg

^^^^another good roof shot, 111 is deffinatley doing the best (center)

second20panasonic20upload20wax20-7.jpg

^^^one more hood shot

im very suprized to say that 845 seems to be doing better than 476. ive used both before, and 476 had deffinatley lasted longer for me. idk whats up with that... 3m performance finnish, i had a feeling would outlive everything on the hood, its good stuff imo... duragloss 111, and the surf city (the 1/3 you can see beading in the picture) seem to be doing the best on the roof.

sorry for the picture quality. they were 10 meg shots, and started looking funny after compressing so much. ill try a lower resolution next time and show them full sized.

comments and questions welcomed :-)

oh, and heres some eye candy for ya
