Wax removers

I've been trying to get a better idea on good wax removers when the wax gets on trim, or plastic.

What are the choices of the pros, since I want to to work well the first time with min efforts.

cheers,

GREG

not a joke, peanut butter! It actually works! I've actually used megs 40 with good results as well though.

I'd avoid a solvent and an aerosol. Solvents can dry out non-painted trim & aerosols will/can dull the final finish and/or remove wax if it gets on the paint. I tape moldings and use a detail brush to scrub wax off.

Well the best way to get it off is to never let it fling on there. For the winshield wiper area we usualy just cover that loosly will wipe towels. a few seconds up front time saves tons of minutes on the back side trying to get it off. and 99% of the time I usually dress all the rubber afterwards anyways with a variety of vinyl protectants so I have no issues at all using the aresol and it "possibly" getting a little dull over the matter. (which BTW I've never ever seen happen personally. but I'm suppose it could with certian products)

While not really a highjackin..............I know that its best not to get the trims waxed.

the question is what is the best wax remover if you do wax the trim. Let try and keep the question simple and easy.

cheers,

I don't know of a product specifically made for this application, but something like APC should(and does) work. That product, along with a toothbrush should take wax/polish off without damaging anything. Dressing over the wax covered trim won't really remove it, but hide it. Per your original post, I was under the impression you were searching for products if this happened in the future. In that case, like others have said, preventive maintainence is your best bet.

I've removed wax using Dawn, Water and a Tooth Brush. Taping off molding is your best bet to avoid this, use 3M blue painters tape works well. A few minutes of taping saves time later.

I have never tried this, but dressing the moldings before may also help. I use lots of 303, I found it on sale for $2.99 at R&S Strauss, I bought what they had left 5 bottles. They were originally 6.99 I think. They no longer carry it.

If moldings are old you want to consider Forever Black.
