Wax on bumper will burn it?

I heard someone say :secret that its not safe to wax painted bumpers because it can burn the paint, is this true? I had never heard of this but I have seen many bumpers with burned paint but I thought it was just cheap paint. I think its safe but I need your input, to prove nothing happens to the paint or prove my self wrong.

I highly doubt that is possible. I think what they meant was polishing a bumper (via machine) as the paint is usually thinner and heats up faster because they're plastic.

natebood’s right about it being more dangerous to power buff a plastic bumper with a rotary. Metal panels dissipate heat away from the buffing zone quickly. Plastic parts are insulating so temperatures build up much faster under the buffer.



Waxing by hand or DA are perfectly safe as long as the paint isn’t already about to fail.
